Another comment - if you start inhaling passive smoke, then it does affect you quit for a couple of days. You have been taking in small amounts of nicotene, so are going through a mini withdrawal. Hi Kev, Sorry that you are having another down bit. They do go away eventually, but it can take time. Anyway, whilst I'm here, I'd thought I'd point out some junkie thoughts. 1) What's the point in quitting if I might get/have cancer anyway? Indeed, what is the point of living at all,if we are all going to die. Why don't you just end it now! ;) 2) What if I already have cancer? You probably don't but your chances are very much higher if you smoke...not just lung, but mouth, bladder, throat etc. etc. 3) Whether we all have the same chance to quit? Junkie thinking - I am too addicted to quit. I have the wrong type of personality - Junkie thinking. 4) Whether it is worth me continuing given all my problems in dealing with small life matters? Because you have been shielding yourself from dealing with small matters with smoking, then you are having to relearn from where you left off (presumably somewhere in teenagerhood)....but you will catch up soon. You will learn to cope with small and big. 5) Will I every get to answer these question I keep asking myself? You won't recognise yourself in a few months time. Just keep plodding along, and your down bit will pass. Lizzie :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/23/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1696 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,440 Amount Saved: 6,360.00 Life Gained: Days: 169 Hrs: 15 Mins: 18 Seconds: 10

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Grin, I think you'd do fine too. Its when you get to these situations that you will pull out some tools. Whether it is concentrating on the car in front or what. Hope you don't have to though. The law seems very unclear about whether it is illegal to smoke in your own car but on company business. I did raise that particular issue before I left. I think I was advised against some speedo's here. Shorts instead of trunks is the order of the day I am told :) Grin, you are going great guns! Congrats on 4,350 not smoked! HUGS from kev Unhooked, apologies if my note below sounded a bit on the negative side. It was not meant to be. You have a much more positive, clear and determined thinking than me and it comes out in our opposite posts :) OK, I'll admit to having slipped back into deep thinking mode for a while. I have been thinking about Kelly's russian roulette analogy and wondering if i would know if I had been shot already. How do you know if you have cancer? Whether we all have the same chance to quit, or whether it is like atheletes going up against pub runners? Whether it is worth me continuing given all my problems in dealing with small life matters? Will I every get to answer these question I keep asking myself? Back in the downward direction at the moment so am just going to concentrate on this very second and all the positives to get me back up. Its a rapid up,down,up,down thing and it all revolves around deep thinking triggers. As long as i stay away from all the above deep thinking then I might be ok again. At least my 'UP' lasted 8 days this time, which is pretty good. ..If only there was an off switch for my brain. :) p.s. probably 6hrs in a car full of smoke had more effect than I was expecting! Hi Unhooked, I, at this present point in time am not smoking and proud of it. I do get the feeling that you mean more long term right? The way I would look at it long term is that I am a smoker on a break from smoking. I still don't think it will be too long before I am back smoking 100 in a pub garden. I just haven't experienced the quit ender yet. This is why I should really only look at the here and now and make the most of every moment with my friends here. It is precious time that I need to spend well. Kev, you are a non-smoker. No ifs, ands or buts. Or butts, either. When are you going to let yourself admit that??? 6 HOURS?? Kev, you are a STRONG ONE!! I would have either caved, jumped or chucked, manager's car or not!! You should be very proud. I think some new shades and swimming trunks to go with the beach towels are in order!! Glad you're back home safe! Brenna, yes it feels very good to know that I did it and I didn't cave. My parents knew I was going up with smokers and how stressed I was beforehand so it was only brought home to me when their relief was very apparent when I stepped through my front door. Hi Lizzie and Tresa, I think maybe if I wasn't so scared of travelling full stop the smoking may have made more of an impact. All I was repeating in my head was 'DO NOT THROW UP, DO NOT THROW UP', especially as it was my new managers car. That would probably not be the best way to break the ice. :) I didn't notice the smell, whereas I normally do. But maybe that is a good thing as I am one of the few that really like the smell of smoke. I don't know why of course but I haven't tried to investigate it too much. Funnily, I seem to be having quite a few smoking thoughts today, so maybe after all the fear has gone I am just left with the desire...one day delayed. Not too worried about it though. I think I passed this particular test and desire is only there whilst it is in my mind so in time will pass. Lizzie, thanks for the pointers re 5 month post. Found it now. I am always late to my own parties. 1700 on the horizon for you. That is way cool! HUGS from Kev p.s. I am soooooo glad to be home. I can enjoy the rest of the week now. JDK, It's good to hear that this week is a little more positive than the last. Congratulations on making it through that long car ride. How did you feel after? You must have felt very triumphant. Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist
