Atta Boy, Big D Have you seen that thread, "This is why you think about smoking."? Explains that association thing really well. It does get easier and easier as you go along. Also, try to find this one,"Rewards, Nicotine and the Brain"...about why rewards are important. Hey Alohakeia. Never did figure out why I was crashing today. I think tha I am trying to learn how to deal with stresses, even small ones, without auotmatically lighting up for a few moments of 'clarity'. I just need to learn that stress does not go away when I light up, it is only masked. I have been using smoking as my escape for 18 years (wo) and hard to learn new methods of coping. I thought the "Junkie Thinking" post was incredible. Two that hit close to home: JUNKIE THINKING: "I miss smoking right now." RESPONSE: "Of course I miss something I've been doing every day for most of my life. But do I miss the chest pain right now? Do I miss the worry, the embarrassment? I'd rather be an ex-smoker with an occasional desire to smoke, than a smoker with a constant desire to stop doing it." JUNKIE THINKING: "I really need to smoke now, I'm so upset." RESPONSE: "Smoking is not going to fix anything. I'll still be upset, I'll just be an upset smoker. I never have to have a cigarette. Smoking is not a need; it's a want. Once the crisis is over, I'll be relieved and grateful I'm still not smoking." When I get the junkie moment, I try to realize all I am gaining instead of losing... BigD, When it becomes plain that you mean business with this quitting business, it seems like often there is an upsurge in cravings/urges/thoughts. Review that Junkie Thinking thread, and use some of that self talk. Keep reading and posting My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 291 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,640 Amount Saved: $1,978.80 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 3 Mins: 13 Seconds: 58

BigD, Try to find a reward for yourself for doing so well so far. Something to distract yourself. It will get easier really soon. Have you figured out what is triggering things today? Hey Big D, take some deep breaths and hang in there! It might just be a bad day, but you will get thru it! Try to dsitract yourself with a task, or watch something or get a straw to suck on. Sometimes you just need to chew on something for that hand to mouth habit we've done for so many years!
