Dec. 12/07 - DeQuitters

I am so with you one the one puff thing Ginette!!! I am the same, I know that for me there is no such thing as one because for me that ALWAYS = 2 which then = 4 etc.... I am really enjoying the way it feels to breathe in today. My breath feels kind of cool and tingly as I take a breath in! Weird huh? I am glad it's Friday, this will be my first weekend as a non-smoker in 20 years. I am not scared or worried, I know I won't smoke. I have all of our Christmas shopping to do, so that will keep me busy (REAL busy! lol!) and in between if I need to, I will nap. That is my plan. Hi Jen/Alpha It was a pretty rough day for me I must admit. Right now things are coasting pretty smooth. Talked to my friend Betty and she told me to call her again later on tonight if I want to and just to talk and deal with my cravings. She's a super wonderful person. I'm happy things are all right with you...you're hanging in there girl and that's the main thing. I know what you mean about the idea of having to quit versus the choice not to smoke. For me, it is the quit bit and not the choice...if I choose I'll relapse Jen. It's funny how things can be so different for everybody. But the main thing is that we don't smoke, not even one puff. One puff and poof I've had it lol. I'm not so spaced out like I was earlier which is good. I'm feeling more grounded now and I don't have the cravings I had before. They're subsiding and it's a relief. It will be interesting how Day 5 will be. I'm looking forward to it. I know one day at a time but I can't help but think of tomorrow too...I like to psych myself for it. Talk to you all later. Cigarettes Not Smoked

I am FANTASTIC Gin! Had a bad crave today though - seemed like it lasted for an hour. I think that was my first one that I would describe as very hard. I am so proud of myself that I didn't give in to it! I am determined to do this! I am doing it one day at a time and even one 5 minutes at a time if I have to. I imagine how nasty a cigarette would taste in my mouth and how harsh the smoke would feel in my throat. YUCK! I cannot yet say to anyone (or to myself) that "I quit smoking" I am saying that "I'm not smoking right now". For some strange reason that is hard to describe - if I think "I quit"- in my head I hear "I can't" and that makes me feel deprived (faulty thought process I know, but I'm an addict and that's my truth) Seems to be working for me to say the "not right now" thing because it reminds me that I am "choosing not to". Which also implies to myself that I GET to not smoke instead of I HAVE to not smoke. Just thought I'd get my thoughts out :) How are you lovely girl? I really LOVE the way that all you "older" quitters pop in to a thread and cheer us newer ones on like this! It is so cool, I feel like we have our very oun cheerleading squad! I honestly didn't really think that participating in this forum would make that big of a difference, but I did it because you guys said it would help. YOU WERE SO RIGHT! I am SO glad I acted on that faith! Thank you guys so much for that. :) Thank you for your support Gin! YOU ROCK! If I used too many !!!!! please forgive me, I just feel SO GOOD TODAY about being a quitter!! Go DeQuitters! You guys are doing awesome! Ginette, boredom is a trigger for me too (at least it was before I got so crazy busy lately). Anyway, what helped me was being here on the SSC A LOT, reading a good book, eating, sleeping, and talking on the phone. When I got a major crave I would do deep breathing and self talk. Keep up DeQuit DeQuitters!
