Exposure for Thoughts?

20 years ago 0 52 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
That is what i am having trouble with crazy thoughts that I am going insane, that I am loosing my grip, I rationalize that I am not, I can write clearly, I can think clearly, I can carry on a conversation and perform my work even though on the inside I have negative thoughts,or scarry thoughts, the worse one is a song I have stuck in my head, any body have any ideas on that, I have seen that in a few posts but know one seems to have an answer for getting rid of a song stuck in your head. It is tormenting. It isn't like I physicall hear or am halucinating it, I just keep obsessing on it for some reason

I have panic over negative thoughts as well. I worked myself up into a tizzy the other day when I met with my Pdoc. I was literally afraid he was going to deem me as insane have me committed. In reality, there's nothing further from the truth. I look and act pretty sane. But that doesn't help the way I think in the inside.

Hi Rachelle, I have the same issue. I don't have panic over situations necessarily----I generally have them due to obsessive thoughts. Here is some of what has helped me: 1) I chose a specific thought, image etc. to replace each negative thought, then when I caught myself obsessing over the neg. I forced my mind to go to the positive thought or image. By choosing ahead of time your mind doesn't have to search for a distraction because you've all ready planned it. 2) I took a class in meditation to help me learn to focus my mind so that I had better control over the neg. thoughts. Exposure work is tough when you're dealing with thoughts. The idea is to find ways to help change the neg. thought processes. If you get any other good ideas I'd appreciate hearing them. :)

Ok, figured out how to start and where I need to start. I can pretty much challenge my thoughts and that is how I have managed through all these years (learned that with a therapist). It usually keeps me from going into a full bore panic but leaves me mildly to moderately anxious all the time. For me it is the thoughts that I fear, no other situation or thing really. So how do I do exposure work around these two thoughts 1)The panic will never go away, I will fight it continuously, every day. 2)The feeling will become so bad that I might commit suicide. I checked alot of back posts to see if something was already there but could only find one that was a little related. Any advice on goal setting is appreciated. Rachele
