Quitting Smoking Sucks

16 years ago 0 75 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I just got a month smoke free with the help of chantix. I'm not getting any side effects any more and take 1 pill per day and some days 2. I really don't crave much just that once in a while nagging urge. all the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/17/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 391 Amount Saved: $92.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 7 Mins: 49 Seconds: 51

Yikes, First of all Congratulations on your quit!! I am also using Chantix and went through the bloat and gas and stomach upset. Drinking lots of water is a key issue for Chantix. Have you changed any of your daily routines? Instead of coffee try tea. I found I like tea better now anyway. I associated coffee with a cancer stick so I changed it. I bought the TAE-BO work out to do when I get home to change my pattern of sitting on the couch craving, and it helps with the weight gain. It does get better and what's better than FREEDOM? Hang in there. Your already a quitter now you need to find the positive and be proud of yourself for quitting when many people I'm sure wish they could do what you have done!! I bumped up "Excessive Gas" on the common support page. Read it and laugh. Yikes, I quit on chantix also and went through some of that. Up your fiber intake, drink more water and add some exercise and it will help with the constipation alot. take your 2nd pill at least by 5pm, even if it is with a snack and you will sleep easier. this is do-able, short term inconvenience, but the rewards are huge, it is worth it, you are worth it aren't you? sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 217 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,170 Amount Saved: $379.75 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 16 Mins: 10 Seconds: 59

Yikes ! yikes ! Well done on the 13 Days...
I quit for 2 reasons the money and watching my ex mother in law dying of emphysema.
I can relate to that one.... but don't forget about the part where you want to stop smoking for you. A quit is all consuming at the start, once you sort out the emotional baggage it's sweet. LOL, Yikes, that's quite the description, but pretty much true of how it feels at first! But the best part is you are so bang on right about something that's so good. Keep on going and doing what you are doing because each day feels a bit better, and better and better yet!!! It is so very much worth it! Hang in there! Not one puff ever! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 276 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,900 Amount Saved: $2,911.80 Life Gained: Days: 33 Hrs: 18 Mins: 17 Seconds: 24

Yikes. It's real easy "in" the quit to get your resolve all turned around. What I mean is this: You start out making the quit all about you!! Your gun-ho about quiting and your doing this for YOU!!!!! Then as the days drift by you begin to feel you "got" to quit...rather than your orginal thinking that you "get" to do this thing. When you were young, it wasn't that you HAD to ride a two wheeler bike. Rather......you were finally old enough to GET to ride one. So you perservered in learning. It took guts...dissapointments and lots of determination to learn to ride without training wheels....but the motivation was YOU were doing something you finally got old enough to do. Your in training now....giving up the security of your training wheels you used in life. You'll feel a little off balance...but once you get it.......YOU FLY!! Hi Yikes! The first month is full of weird surprises but look at how much smoking affected in your life and in your body. You are going to be free of all the chemicals and weirdness that it has caused for so many years. It is a bit of adjustment at first but what are you enjoying about being quit? Better smell, more energy, more time? Have you given yourself any kind of reward for nearly TWO WEEKS of being smokefree? Look at all those cigarettes you haven't smoked, that is incredible. The freedom from being a non-smoker is amazing but if you fight it, you will be fighting it forever. Were cigarettes really that great? They were killing you slowly and depriving you of truly enjoying life as we are made to enjoy it. The physical stuff will get better but the mental stuff is totally up to you. You will always have the choice to smoke. This might at least make you smile or let you know you aren't alone... So by my calculations you've been smoking for 8760 days.So I think it's reasonable to give yourself and your body a chance to regroup after exposing it to the crap associated with smoking and it will get better. You've got all the classic symptoms of a recovering addict so be patient and give yourself a chance in the long run it pays of big time. ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 261 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,698 Amount Saved: $2,610.00 Life Gained: Days: 59 Hrs: 16 Mins: 13 Seconds: 16

First of all congrats on 13 days. It is not easy giving up an addiction, yes addiction. I started smoking at the age 12 and smoke 50+ years. Was it easy to quit, h3ll no!! This has been one of the hardest thing I have ever done and I sure hope I don't have to do this again. Yes you are going to feel uncomfortable for some days and maybe a few weeks. You have been putting poison into your body for years and it just won't go away in a few days. Please, please give yourself and your body a chance to heal. Also, for me, it can be real easy to talk yourself into may just a puff or just one, DON'T DO IT!!! Come here read, drink water, walk, scream out loud, just don't smoke. When will it get better, soon very soon. Instead of thinking about it all the time take some time and reflect on the gift you are giving yourself. Take a deep breath, doesn't feel good and you are not coughing up your toe nails. Hang in there, okay? Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 220 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,200 Amount Saved: $330.00 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 15 Mins: 43 Seconds: 12

Gee... I can't recall as I was 14 yrs. old. I quit for 2 reasons the money and watching my ex mother in law dying of emphysema. I was just hoping I would start to feel a bit more positive soon.
