Shock Horror Lizzie!!! It backfired on me! No filling last night, the tooth cannot be saved so it's out with the pliers and out with the tooth - next Thursday! Gulp! :8o: In some ways, the extraction is easier to deal with. Provided that the Novacaine has done its job well, it's just a feeling of pressure and a cracking sound as he turns and twists the offending molar out of position! Quite painless really! :| Mind you, I've never been too happy with the footprints he leaves on my chest!! :eg: My best wishes to you and JF!!! Penitent d1291 :)

Pen - That is truly a cruel image to scare us dentophobes. Please don't go into counselling. :eg: You might end up on the receiving end of a mad axe man.....or even dentophobes if you enrage us too much. Kev - I am glad you had a good day. It is important to remember and celebrate these milestones. One day, all days will be good days (smoking wise). You will still have bad days because of life stuff! Off to see my Dentist, Phil McAvity, tonight at 6.15 for a filling - yeah! Jab that needle in that gum and let the novacaine flow, and don't you just love the screaming pitch of that high speed drill and the smell of burning bone as the nurse snaffles great chunks of tooth down that suction pipe. Have you ever noticed the beads of sweat running down the dentist's face as he forces the drill deeper and deeper into the cavity to remove the very last remnants of decay? Ah, the joys of dentistry - and not a cigarette in sight! Tootle-Pip! Penitent d1290 :)

Hi Tresa, Nice to have you back. Hope your trip went well. I always have you in mind when I think about dentists now, but in a good way. I think you would have a calming influence on me or maybe even excited to go there :) I will relay my parents dental stories at some point. They tell me them to soothe me. Nice round number from me. 140 days not smoked. Only ten away from the Lizzie numbers. My new attitude seems to have made difference to the way I handle things. The new Kev attitude in a nutshell is 'OK, I may or may not make it another day as a non smoker. What happens happens, just concentrate on enjoying life, try to keep worrying about what may or may not happen down to a minimum. Each day I fluke a smokefree day is a great day'. It is my interpretation on Pen's JFDI approach. Hi Lizzie, I'm here. Enjoying your entries. I'm attempting to be a good boy and only post at home :) __/\__ \ / /_ _\ \/ Ok, that was my feeble attempt at giving you a gold star for being brave at the dentist. We dentophobes or people who don't like going to the dentists stick together. I'll let you know the new date when I get it. I've already started worrying for britain and I don't even know the date I have to go back. I like to post good news and today is a good news day. I felt good from 7am right the way through to 4am and I even thought I could cope without cigarettes today at some point for a little while. It is not often that happens so I am making the most of it. JFDI has some great points about it for sure! For someone who lacks any self confidence or self esteem like me any good news is a great thing. To not constantly look for assuredness from others that I am doing the right thing is special too. Ok, so at 4pm I got knocked back in my box and am now unassured and down again but mostly I had a good day and I would like to report it here. Btw, Lizzie 6,300! Did you notice? Round numbers are special. Well done girl. Where is Kev, anyway? Isn't this supposed to be his diary? Dear Diary, I did not post at the SSC today...I have been too busy FTDIing it around town. I have not smoked even though I might have thought about it. I only bought chocolate buttons. Marginally young Liz, marginally!! And when I referred to private care or otherwise, my mind was focused on the care and consideration for the patient's well-being rather than the cost of the execution - it's always nice for the novacaine to have taken effect on one's nervous system BEFORE the sadist starts grinding down the teeth that were once cherished! Anyways, I wish you well for the first installment on Monday, I'm sure all will be fine! :eg: Penitent d1288 NOT d1287 as previously stated - Getting Old!!! :)

Yes Pen, it's private - it is just as well I have saved so much money in not smoking! When the dentist was doing filling 2, she said "Have I quoted you for the crown, yet?" To which I replied "No, tell me whilst I am already lying down." I was also informed that in some teeth, I have around 20% bone loss from smoking, but the Xrays show that there has been no further deterioration since I quit. If I continued to smoke, then it could have be too late. :gasp: My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/23/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1679 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,185 Amount Saved: 6,296.25 Life Gained: Days: 167 Hrs: 22 Mins: 34 Seconds: 10
