I used nicotine. When I started it was to fit in, the it became an addiction. When I first drank alcohol it was to fit in, then it became and addiction. What I have learned you don't have fit any social status to become addicted. For me, as I understand it, we have some kind of genetics imbalance. I wasn't born to be a smoker or drinker or to be a bad person. Today I am a non-smoker, a recovering alcoholic, and I am a darn nice person. Kelly you are one of the nicest people I know!!! Your are beautiful inside and out, so there :eg: Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 216 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,160 Amount Saved: $324.00 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 3 Mins: 15 Seconds: 4

JDK I have to say I agree with you. Both my parents smoked and my father was a weekend alcoholic and they would not allow us to smoke so when I got married I smoked right at my reception. I thought I was showing them I guess you would call it dumb now. I'll add rebellious types. I don't think it is a right answer but not sure if there is a correct answer. Bear, These days anyone who uses Nicotine must have some kind of death wish, as so much is known about it. What a pity more and more young people are smoking.......probably the 'immortal' feeling of the young! The "It won't happen to me!" syndrome. When I began smoking, no one was thinking about the damage it did to your health....you just tried it out! Then you became an ADDICT! I surely used Nicotine and definitely must have had a death wish to continue, but continue I did, such is the hold if the Nicodemon on the brain, body, etc! I do not think it is a conscious idea in most addicts, or any self-destructiveness or unworthiness. It is a serious addiction which is possible to beat just like any other.....it all depends on the determination and mind set you have when you quit. I tried many times before I reached that critical point where continuing was not an option!!! It is so worthwhile and the change in personality after quitting is remarkable, but I do believe this is how I would have been had I not been 'altered' by my addiction. That is, I hid behind the addiction and the true person did not emerge. It's so great to be FREE! NEVER LOOK BACK. THE FUTURE IS AHEAD!!! Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1102 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 38,570 Amount Saved: 5,510.00 Life Gained: Days: 157 Hrs: 13 Mins: 29 Seconds: 3

There are many kinds of people who use nicotine. My mother, my father, my sons. My good friend. I used it myself for many years. There is no one type of person or personality that uses nicotine. I read somewhere that the reason people do destructive behaviors is because they subconsciously (or consciously) believe they deserve bad things to happen to them. i.e. they don't feel worthy of a good, healthy life so they sabotage it. Well, I'm only 90 some days in and new things are happening to me all the time so what do I know but I'm thinking there may be something to that theory. Of course not everyone fits in the same shoe so before any of you get defensive I am only saying it is possible for some. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,940 Amount Saved: $573.30 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 19 Mins: 54 Seconds: 16
