Still Dreaming

16 years ago 0 3307 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I would rather smoke in my dreams than smoke when I am awake :eg: They don't scare me. When will they end who knows, but they are just dreams and they can't hurt you. When I first quit drinking I use to have drinking dreams and then I learned it was just a process so the smoking dreams never really bothered me. Now I dream about a drink and smoke and know they are just that dreams and not reality. I do take my not smoking and my sobriety very seriously. Hi Rambler, I was still having FREQUENT smoking dreams at 1 year. They didn't worry me any more than a nightmare might. Now at 22 months, I can't remember when I had the last one, but it was a while ago. So in answer to your question, in my case, they seem to have stopped! Dreams? Oh yes... The worst were when I kept a patch on ovrernight... To be honest I dream more now that have stopped than I have ever before. Some are rubbish and some I dont want to wake up from!!!! Smoking seems to have faded into the background though apart from about a week ago wwhen I dreamed I was smoking and a friend shouted YOU DO NOT SMOKE and I woke up! The guy in question infuriates me he only smokes at work.If he goes on holiday or at the weekeds not a single puff! Why can I be like that? Yes Rambler, I had several of them, in fact I remember them better than any other dreams I have had. Mine went on through the first maybe six months or so. Can't remember exactly. See they do go away. I think partly it is a function of how much one smoked. Rambler, The 'smoking dream' is a bizarre yet very common phenomenon as I am sure you have noted, it is quite a common topic here. They can last for various lengths of time, it might hit when you think you don't even think about smoking anymore. These dreams tend to be very vivid and so realistic that you may believe you actually smoked. You may wake up with a raw feeling in your throat and you will most likely feel guilty about it. It is really amazing the power of the subconscious. Lets hear from some more members, how long did these dreams last? Did their intensity ever fade? Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi Rambler! Whew, glad it was only a dream! Actually, (and I should knock on wood), I haven't had one smoking dream this quit, isn't that odd? Other quits I had lots of them! And they do go away. Just your subconscience doing some OT! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 263 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,575 Amount Saved: $2,774.65 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 3 Mins: 8 Seconds: 56

Here I am 11 months into this quit and I'm still having dreams about smoking. When I awoke this morning I would have sworn I smoked a half pack during the night. I had these dreams constantly from about 3 months until 6 months, then they quit. Now they are back. Does anyone know if they ever go away?
