Happy Smokefree Thanksgiving

Well Anna, what was on my table? A jacket potato with grated cheese and some onion salad left over from the night before's Indian takeout, all washed down with a diet coke and followed by a banana!! Happy Thanksgiving indeed! :) Penitent d1284

Thankgiving is a day to celebrate and give "Thanks" to what we have in our lives. There are many things to be thankful for and traditionally we celebrate with family and friends. Each area of the country and different cultures serve different foods. In my area of the country we have turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie and whatever else sounds good! Come on folks, what was on your table today??? Sure was nice to celebrate without having to withdrawl all day! (closet smoker) And of course, the cough after laughing all day was just a tickle in my throat. Hmmm, didn't cough one time today..... :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 318 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,770 Amount Saved: $1,335.60 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 11 Mins: 55 Seconds: 47

Ah Gen, don't believe everything you read on the web. Thanksgiving was actually proclaimed by Abraham Lincoln back in the 1860s. There's no evidence of the myth we Americans like to believe about Pilgrims and Indians supping together gaily over an open fire. It's a nice story, though. And those pesky English...another myth is that we were discovered and founded and settled by the English. Indeed, we are a true melting pot of many cultures, dating way back before the English came. Many, many of us are not of English extraction. So, my point is that I am thankful to have family and friends of many cultures and many languages, including here on the SSC! Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends. I just Googled it and found a lovely little video bringing me up to speed with the origins and tradition of the holiday. One of the things you are thankful for is for getting rid of those pesky English but luckily we are all one big family on this site. Ahhhh! Hope you all have a lovely smoke free time. I'd just like to say that while y'all in the good ol' US of A are holidaying tomorrow (and Friday too probably there's a lot to digest!), we here in the UK will be doing our best to keep the wheels of the world economy greased and rolling!! Don't worry about us, we'll be fine, just give us a little thought as yet another slice of turkey whistles by!! Happy Thanksgiving Friends! Penitent d1282 :)
