Thanks so much you guys.
"A little help from my friends" is in my purse, ready to go. It is a shame that holidays can be this stressful for some of us, but I'm afraid my mom probably won't be around a lot longer. I will keep all of my SSC friends in my thoughts and I will make it through!

Hi Jodi,
How about printing out a list of some sort from here and carrying it with you? Maybe Anna's "quotes" list, or I'll bump up one I took on a trip, called "A Little Help for my Friends". You could pull that out and read it if the urges get strong..kind of take an SSC break, instead of a cig break. Maybe include your husband in those SSC breaks.

Hi Jodi,
Gen is right and so are you. I would like to add that, not only will smoking not make any of it better, smoking will make it all that much worse.
Sounds like you have a potentially stressful and uncomfortable day ahead of you, but, the stress and discomfort will end when the day ends. Smoking wouldn't end with the day.
I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving! Congrats on 36 days smoke-free! That is huge!
:)

Hi Jodi
I just read your post.
It all sounds like a potential minefield but you must carry with you the support of all the people on this site to strengthen your resolve.
Your last sentence says it all.
Smoking will not make any of it better.
You will feel so great when it has all passed and you haven't given in.
Hope it all goes OK.
Gen

Hi Jodi,
I know it's close to Thanksgiving but is there any chance you can prepare the meal this year and not allow any smoking in your home for the day? Your husband might feel better being in his own home. I wish you all the best regardless and try either way try to look at it in a positive light. You are smoke free and have over a month of not smoking. You deserve a reward and some time for yourself!!

I hate to be negative, but I'm a little worried about my first smoke free holiday. We always go to my mom's house. She smokes in the house. I have faced this trigger before and did ok, but it was only for about two hours (she smoked twice, I went outside). I am not around smokers very much at all. My husband is still "trying" to quit and he never smokes around me. My friends don't smoke.
The other reason I'm worried is that last Thanksgiving my husband and my mom got in a HUGE fight and it ruined the evening. It doesn't help that my mom is a hard core alcoholic (with liver cirrhosis). Sometimes I wish I could just take my kids and go far, far away. But my family is all my mom has. My mom has no siblings, I have no siblings and my dad died in Feb '06 of lung cancer. Sorry, I'm rambling.
Smoking will not make any of this better. I will not smoke!

Crazycuban,
Thanks for the post, I bet there are a lot of firsts in the support groups. Congrats to all who will be experiencing their first smoke free holiday. Lets all get together and give some support for everyone during the holidays.

I had a smoke free holiday last year during a 60+ day quit, and LOVED IT!!! Your gonna love being smoke free. It's ok to jump the gun and get excited, it's good to be excited about the brand new world of smoke free holiday's and fun with family and friends without the smoke break or wreaking like smoke!
Enjoy, you deserve it!
