Even though my husband does not smoke in the house, he has tried to tempt me more times than I go through cravings in a day. Sparkwins, it has turned almost into a game for me, not smoking to spite him and maybe to inspire him to quit. But I do remember many many years ago when my parents were going to quit together...when one of you is going through the hell of quiting, it is rough...when both of you are going through it, you dont have as much support and understanding as you need around you. They bit each other's heads off for 3 days, and my mom started back because of the additional stress they were putting on each other. She took the habit outside and to the fireplace so she would not tempt my dad, but after that she never did quit. BTW, she died when she was 42. Keep your quit and be proud of your progress. Tell her you very much need her support and to compromise with you, if she is not willing to quit right now. Here's hoping you won't throw away the 18 days that you've worked so hard for. My husband smokes and we had a rough time in the early days of my quit, but we made it through. I would suggest that you not "lay down the law" or any of that....simply explain your point and ask for her help. But don't let anyone and any situation come between you and your quit. You can get through this! I just got my wife to stop smoking. She tried years ago, but today is her first full day. Think about the cost other then money. Hang tough. goofy My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 160 Amount Saved: $25.20 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 43 Seconds: 15

My husband smokes too and I hate it! But, he does have the courtesy to keep it away from me. He doesn't smoke in the house or the car (the garage is ok) Ask your wife to understand what you're going through and to keep the cigarettes as far away from you as possible. You should not have to endure the site or smell of cigarettes at all. Like some others have said, it has been done before and can be done again. Be strong and I hope your wife will be proud, understanding and follow your lead (as well as my husband). Good luck and keep the quit. I hope you've decided to stay quit Sparkwins. You have quit for 18 days and could do it again but why would you want to? You're over the really hard part and you'll have to face all that again to get back to where you are right now. I don't think you smoking will change your wife. She does what she does for her own reasons and I'd guess she'll continue to do that whether you smoke or not. Smoking is something you had in common there, obviously, and no doubt for some time. It's unfortunate for you that she is not trying to quit at the same time as you. That could be something you both have in common in place of the smoking habbit. You don't have to do it at the same time, my wife and I didn't. The difference with us is we didn't smoke in our house or cars. The worst she had to deal with from me was the smell of smoke on me after I came back in. Go for a compromise of some sort. She doesn't have to quit but she needs to respect you and your decision to quit. There's something fundamentally off center here if she can't help you. You asked what do I think well thats it but more important what do you think ??? Don't do it, sparkwins. I have been exactly where you are & it won't happen. There is never a good time for you both to quit, you just feed each other's junkie with excuses until, eventually, you just don't even talk about it anymore. I don't know what the answer is, but I do know it isn't start again. That is NEVER the answer. You have a great quit going, it's yours & you might have some unique challenges in protecting it. Giving it up is not the way to do that. I agree about asking your wife not to smoke in the bedroom or bathroom (how does the sight & smell of ashtrays not sicken you? Really, bend right over one first thing in the morning & take a big whiff. Gross) , but she might be feeling defensive & territorial. If so, you might have to sleep in another room & use the other bathroom until, either you feel confident enough to deal with it, or she concedes territory. The smoking spouse can feel really left behind in a situation like this, & that gets compunded by guilt because she knows she should support your quit and a vicious circle develops. You can do it, sparkwins, many quitters here have quit with smokers in the house. Don't throw away those 18 hard fought days. In fact, go get yourself a reward & ask your wife to join you! Sparkwins, I agree that your wife should not smoke around you. Take into consideration the cost, do you really want to pay $12.00 a pack again? Your health? Doesn't she care about your health? Maybe its just that she isn't ready, OK then, she will have to concede to smoking outdoors or in the garage. It has to be a compromise. You are trying your best, she has to see that. Stick to your guns Sparkwins. You know that sooner than later she will quit too, and if you stay quit, the odds are that it will be sooner! (Every smoker wants to quit!) So fight hard! You can do this! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 241 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,025 Amount Saved: $2,542.55 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 9 Mins: 38 Seconds: 46

Congrats on 18 days!!! I do not know how you got this far living with someone who smokes around you. That would have been just to close to home for me!! My husband smokes but we only smoked outside... Now he smokes away from me & keeps his cigs locked up... He is very proud of my quit & he knows he needs to quit but hasn't yet. I would never wait for him.. this quit came from somewhere way deep inside.. I did not I had it in me.. Mind over matter... I want to quit more than I want to smoke... Good luck Please don't start back!! Keep posting.. PS love kelly suggestion..
