I'M GOING CRAZY!!!

ldyexec, Glad to hear you're feeling better. And don't worry about posting your experiences and asking for help. It seems like you listen to the suggestions you are given. If you can manage through the weekend without the patches you will be truly free of nicotine, then the urges to smoke will be more mental than physical. Could you plan a weekend of low demands so that you can rest and do things that please you? Remember to drink lots of water, breathe deeply, and keep telling yourself that what you're feeling is only temporary. Millions of people quit smoking successfully. btw, one time when I tried to quit using the patches I got nicotine poisoning.....woke up in the middle of the night, puking my guts out, and it tasted like cigarettes. Never tried those babies again. Have a great weekend!!! -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 225 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,000 Amount Saved: $1,530.00 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 10 Mins: 52 Seconds: 29

Hi guys...sorry I couldn't respond until now. I don't have a computer at home, just at work. I'm doing better today (thus far). I am actually trying to go without the patch to see if it is do-able for me! (hope so). Sorry about my meltdown yesterday. Very bizarre, but I think that the patch was giving me my headaches. I took my patch off and I have not had my headache yet. I think I'm on to something! HURRAY! :) Is everyone else doing okay today? Cigarettes Not Smoked

I've heard of the patch causing headaches because of too much nicotine. Try something else, or maybe it would work to cut the patch in half. I've not tried the patch so I'm not so familiar with it. Tryagain, You had a very powerful substance, nicotine, in your body for many years. It's going to take some time for your body to repair the damage done. For one thing, your neurotransmitters are all out of whack because of the nicotine. That takes some time to adjust. Way more than four days. You can help it along by doing things that will increase the "feel good" chemicals in your brain, like by exercising (even just walking 20-30 minutes)and giving yourself pleasurable rewards. They don't have to cost anything. Read Free and Low Cost Rewards thread for ideas. Let us know each day what you have done to help those neurotransmitters return to a normal state. How long do the increased cravings last when you go off the quit aid? Quite frankly it's been four days and it has not gotten better, that is from when it got worse. I'm going to give it another couple of days and if there is no improvement, I'm going to try something else, the patch, back to the gum, something because this isn't right at all. ldyexec, The headaches might be too much nicotine, then. Talk to your docotr or pharmacist about the right level patches. I believe it is based on how much you smoked. Also, as Kelly said, you still have nicotine in your system as long as you are using the patches. I believe Tryagain said she had been going on and off the nicotine gum and just three days ago stopped it completely, so now she is finally nicotine free. That should make a difference in level of cravings. From what I've read on here, most people experience some increased cravings when they go off their quit aids. I have never used patches successfully, so can't really tell you how to get the most out of it, maybe others who have can give you more guidance in that area. But it seems to me that during the time you are using them is when you can begin to deal with the mental aspect of smoking, e.g., the triggers and strategies, etc. Good work on getting your meter working, despite the New Quitter Fogginess ;) Pen I can't get a pic to show anymore when I use version 5, but I can with version 6.
