Religion and Panic Attacks

I think that your Pastor was very unfair! He seemingly has no understanding of what panic and anxiety is like and that the last thing you needed was more negativity in you life. Keep your strength and get in touch with God directly, I know you will find comfort and acceptance in him. While I'm not actively involved in a prayer group at the moment I've asked my sister if she will take your need to her group, so please know that there are a group of us in New Zealand who are praying for you, asking God to watch over you and provide you with the strength and courage you need to face the challenges in your life.

D.E.H, I will pray for you. I agree with all the other posters, only the Lord can judge. I am extremely agoraphobic, and it bothers me at times that I cannot even attend Church. But I do pray and read His Word, I also have felt his presence when I need him the most, so I know God hears me and is not punishing me. I pray for strength, courage and more maturing of my faith. He knows your heart. God Bless, Trish

This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I attend a very conservative, Bible believing church. I believe the Bible to be God's word. When I ended up on medication and asked for prayer in my women's Bible study, I was given support. Yes, it is good to ask others to pray for this affliction. Here is my take on this. (This is my opinion only.) In a perfect world, there would be no panic problems. We would all trust God as we should. But because sin is in the world and we all sin, disease has come into the world. One of these disease is panic disorder. I am not saying that the panic disorder I have is a direct result of a sin I did. (Just like I don't believe cancer is given to a person for a direct sin). Diseases occur and the Bible says that God works for the good of those who love Him and keep his commandments. So to me, that means that though it's hard for me to see and understand, God has a greater purpose in life that I cannot see. I accept my disease, pray about it, and do what I can to conquer it. For me, the medication I take helps me let go of my worries and assists me with giving them to God. My medication does not take away all my fears and worries-it only helps me control them better. It controls my physical symptoms. I'm not sure if this makes sense. I'd be happy to explain further by email if you are interested. (christianhsmom@hotmail.com). Prayer is important and can really help. It is very comforting. Asking for prayer should be met with a " I will be happy to pray for you. Would you like to pray now" or something like that. Rachel

God does not punish! I have suffered from panic/post traumatic stress for quite some time. I pray and always feel God's presence in my life. God never said that the road would be easy but He does promise to be there right beside you. This knowledge has given me such relief. Never ask a person (whether of the cloth or not) ask God for the help you need directly and you will receive it! God is our only judge and our anxiety is not a judgement issue...we live in a world that judges and the world or other people have no business judging any one for anything...That is left to God and he is a merciful God and judge. Keep the faith! Rose

You definitely got jumped on. Religion is a touchy subject to speak about, since you never know who you're going to offend, but I'm going to say this anyway. Sometimes, people who devote their lives to God are so firm in their beliefs of what is right and wrong, according to religion, that they get stuck in those beliefs and cannot see our true intentions when we ask for help. Maybe you should ask God directly for help and skip the middle man. Sarah :)

I went to my Paster to ask for prayor over these attacks I've been having...........Rather than agreeing to help me in prayer... I got lectured on maybe I haven't been close enough to God lately and I'm scared of dying because of all the sins I've committed on earth and maybe I don't have a 1 on 1 relationship with Jesus...........I was devastated.....All those attacks on me and all I was wanting was prayer............I am I reading too much into what he was saying..........or did I just get JUMPED ON while I was asking for help.....I'm sure there are a lot more religious people than I going through these same problems.......... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
