Did you know that craving a cigarette only lasts about 5 minutes or so...that's all. You can get through that! Hang on, each day will get easier. Baby steps and will power!! Hello Dream, Like the money, you will find better ways to spend your time. Don't let the junky take you back to where you know you don't what to go. If you hadn't smoked you wouldn't need all those breaks, you wouldn't have had an addiction to feed. If you hadn't smoked, you wouldn't have felt stressed when the break didn't come at the same time the craves did, you wouldn't have had an addiction to feed. If you hadn't smoked you could have spent more time in that place where you couldn't smoke to take care of business, doing it right because you wouldn't have had an addiction to feed. It knows you. It has played you for a long time. DON'T YOU LET IT ANYMORE!!! IT STOPS RIGHT NOW, FROM THIS POINT ON!!! Put your addict under that rock and sit on it! Don't listen to it! Anything or any thought that ends in smoking or makes smoking appealing to you is the work of the junky. It knows everything that has worked before and will try them all. It won't give up so you have to be stronger and change all the rules so it can't play you like it has all this time. The breaks were only relaxing because they allowed you to feed the addict and the addict backed off the craves while the drug flowed to reward you when you did feed it. That relaxation was a conditioned response. Like a trained animal that will do tricks for treats, it had you on a leash. You're free now but not out of danger. Stay strong and stay smart. You have control now and that's something you must value as greatly as you do the quit, because they are the same thing. You took it from the addict and it wants it back. You hang on! Dream, 5 minutes per cigarette x 24 cigarettes = 2 hours a pack-a-day smoker spends everyday just smoking. Many used smoking as an excuse to have their time-out throughout the day. The same still applies as a quitter. Just change what you're doing and go for longer periods of time in between. Ex: 15 minutes to flip through a magazine, take your next break in three hours. As opposed to smoke a cigarette in five minutes and smoke another an hour from now. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

What LAdy said, dream. That's the junkie trying to get a fix. First of all, we know that smoking doesn't relax you, you jsut think it does because you're getting a fix & easing your withdrwawal from your last cigarette. So your junkie mind associates smoking with relaxing. Lady's suggestions are far more relaxing and don't take any time. You could also light a scented candle, do some relaxtion exercises (like head & neck rolls), make a journal entry, or wash your face. You're doing great, dream. Keep hanging in & don't listen to the junkie, she lies. dream, There are plenty of other things to do instead of smoke. Take a walk, drink some ice cold water, take a lot of deep breaths. You are doing great. Each situation you make it through makes you that much stronger for the next. Hang in there. You are doing great!!! Its so hard to not think about lighting a cig. I really wish I had the time to do other things that would help relax me, but I don't have much time to spare.. just enough to smoke, which I can't do and I dont want to do.
