Xena... Deep breaths. Breathe in :gasp: Breathe out :8o: Repeat Breathe in :gasp: Breathe out :8o: When I quit one of the things my mother (a 2+ a day smoker) kept saying to me was 'Please go back to smoking before you kill yourself'. It is all junkie thinking at it's finest! Don't fall into the trap. You have 4 very hard days under your belt. Don't let go now! You are doing great and well on your way to a smoke free life! The temptations are everywhere right now but as time goes on it will get easier. Each situation you make it through makes you that much stonger for the next. Stay in the moment and get through one day at a time. You are doing great! Xena, that's what the junkie in your head wants you to think. The fact is that smoking does not reduce ot eliminate stress. You know that, you just have to tell the junkie. If you feel stressed out, step back from the situation, think about something else until you're ready to tackle the stressful problem in a calm, logical way. Get outside for a short walk & some fresh air, have some cold water, distract yourself. Just like you used to do when you were smoking. It was never the smoking that helped with the sress, it was all the rituals involved with the smoking. Xena, You are having an attack of the junkie thinking! Now you know that smoking increases your pulse rate. It is a stimulant, not a depressant. Smoking narrows your arteries as soon as you inhale the first smoke into you body. Smoking is taking in hundreds of cancererous chemicals. Is this reducing your stress levels? The reason you feel stressed is nicotene addiction. This stress will reduce as you get through hell week and heck week. You will become more confident and skilled at beating the addiction. Don't bargin with the junkie thoughts - it makes it harder not easier. Tell yourself that 'today I will not smoke.' Delay the decision to restart. Today I will not smoke. Today I will not smoke. and repeat this tomorrow too! Now you have done a great 5 days. Fantastic work! You are almost through hell week...don't look back. Xena, Stay strong! You are almost over "hell week" Take some you time and learn some relaxation techniques for you. Decompress after a hard day or in the middle of the day. The nicodemon is fighting you and you need to push back. Your change in routine and extra time gained, can leave you feeling bored and looking for something. Not a cigarette though, so get making a list of activities, hobbies, chores and pampering that you can do to keep yourself busy :) Josie, Support Specialist

Ok this is day 5. Can;t say Ok now it's all fine and I feel good. This morning the urge was strong ... just bugging me over and over. Had to go buy some milk and things... and the temptation was so strong to buy a pack. Stress is high this morning because of things going on and just feel like saying who cares... after all these years and everything going on... surely stress is just as bad as smoking. But i didn't buy any, and am still angry as heck... but I didn't smoke. Honestly, is the stress of not smoking stacked on top of the stress i already have not bad for me?
