I do smell good. My son told me so! So did my nephew. Can;t say I look good though cause I have big blue bags under my eyes today! Thing is i am glad, am proud, and feeling this is the right thing... but man do i also feel some opposites to that. I raked some more leaves, cleaned the kitchen, made some soup... and of course had some more jelly beans. It'll soon be bedtime... and that for me means one more day smoke free... Margi I know what you mean about the smell. I can already smell it off others.. yuck! Grin, a long warm bath sounds good. Think I'll put some good music and a few candles in there too. Thanks Martha. My kids are so happy i quit. And really me too. JUst am struggling with it today. Was so cool about it yesterday. Lori, I know waht you mean. I thought about t this morning... never want to have to go through this again. I know i can do it... but somehow today seems the toughest. Way to go Xena! You are so close to "over the hump". Hang in there. Here's what you maybe have to look forward to from one who is at the 19 day mark: I hardly thought about "it" today. I had virtually no cravings. I enjoyed a long walk this afternoon. Though I have reasons for stress in my life, I feel very, very calm. It is so incredibly great to be free, at last, from this life consuming addiction. I hardly ever have to go to the ATM anymore for cash. I was quite repelled today by a fellow elevator passenger who smelled of tobacco. I am no longer ashamed of myself. I can look forward to traveling anywhere, including la de da bed and breakfast inns, as a non-smoker. Well - you get the idea. I am sure you and everyone else on this wonderful support site can think of hundreds more reasons we are grateful for being non-smokers. So glad you are staying in the club1 Margo :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 450 Amount Saved: $112.50 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 10 Mins: 53 Seconds: 32

Xena, Martha is right! It does get better and it is soooooo worth it. Did your DR say anything about swimming? Is that an option? Sounds like you are wanting to go from one place to the next (flight instinct). Maybe taking a drive (on a country road, you don't need the stress of traffic!!) And there's always a long hot soak in the tub. I lived there during my first days of quitting. You can do it! Just remind yourself of all of the reasons you want to stay quit! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,400 Amount Saved: $384.00 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 1 Mins: 35 Seconds: 45

Xena, Great job on those 3 Days. They are hard fought but you have won! I agree with Lori that sometimes half the battle is mental. One thing that you will eventually have to take hold of is the fact that you CAN smoke anytime you want. You will always have that choice but it is one that you deliberately and conciously choose NOT to do. This puts you in control rather than the cigarettes controlling you. It may seem like a small thing but knowing that you are doing the best possible thing for you and your kids rather than just "having to quit" shifts things into the positive. Do you have some rewards in place? A hot bath, some herbal tea, scented candles or just some chill time? Instead of exercise can you do some stretches or a walk around the block? Also, your senses of smell and taste should be coming back to life - think of things to celebrate those. Can you clean or do a jigsaw puzzle to get out some of that figgety-ness? You'll get this licked. I'll try to find a great post that explains some of the anger stuff. I struggled with that in the beginning also but please know it does end and the freedom on the other side is worth all of this! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Xena -- You're almost through the worst physical part of it at the 72 hours, so as bad as you feel - this is not something you want to keep having to put yourself through again and again. It's torture to keep having to relive the first couple of days. What has been helping me is to really change my thinking. What I am figuring out for sure now is that smoking will not make me feel better - the only way to feel better is not to smoke. All smoking does is set me up for the next withdrawal and then I'll have to take another "dose" to make the withdrawal go away. Don't give in. You can overcome this! We all can. Thank you so much my lovely friends. I threw them away, broke them, and i look at my post and say yes yesterday i was happy, but in reality i wish they were OK, they were Ok for my health, and i could smoke away and not have to look twice my age and have to worry about them killing me. But i know they are not good for me, and i have to do this, though %^&*(*(%(* am am just mad and need to calm down right now. it's day 4, and i'm doing it... but i feel like just swearing and crying and being mad at me at them at everyone. I am stressed, have some things coming my way that just make me want to not care Please help me feel that this is what is right. PLease show mw how to help myself with stress. I can't exercise. I tore a ligament and everytime i run it just brings it back to the way it was where I limp when I walk. The doc told me to help it get better i have to rest. Breathing helps, Sunshine the straws help too. BUt I want to run, and can't . Help! Xena, I'm proud of you. Those first few days are tough...but your doing it. AND...and yes..... there is allot of anger. I had it. I was so mad I had to go through quiting. But ironically...the anger can make you stick to your quit. I felt those cigarette companies weren't going to run me any longer. I think you deserve a little reward. mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 261 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,220 Amount Saved: $1,166.67 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 7 Mins: 5 Seconds: 40

Hi Xena, Yes, it is normal to feel tired. Nicotine is a stimulant and chances are you smoked when you were tired to wake yourself up. Keep persevering! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist
