Complete heartbreak

Tyragain, I just found your post with your sad news. It made me feel guilty for getting cross with my old cat - Leo - who is now 17, deaf and has a touch of dementia.... I too was glad to give up smoking because of my dog. He used to wheeze and look at me with such a sorrowful expression while I engulfed him in clouds of smoke. He's old too and arthritic but is much happier with me not smoking. On the bright side I also have another cat - I call her 'the kitten' (name Doughnut) but she's 8. It's amazing how fast time goes by. So I'm sorry about your old friend and hope you might get a new one soon. Oh tryagain, I missed you asked me a question. Yes..... my little Sophie survived the hurricane. They found her three months after the hurricane almost starved to death. She also had puppies at the shelter. Not sure if she got pregnant at the shelter or before. Her puppies were to be transported here and she was to go elsewhere. When the truck arrived here, they found her with her pubbies!! She snuck in with them. So the foster mom took her and the puppies. I took one look at Sophies on the animal league website and knew she would be mine. I spent LOTS of money (embarresd to say how much) on surgery for her back. She is real good now. She is so pretty. One of the reasons to quit smoking on my list was for her. She didn't like the smell. She would do this little sneeze thing when I would kiss her. She is so thankful to be safe and spoiled and shows me all the time how much she loves me. Also..... she likes how I smell now. God BLess you for helping the animals. How special you are. I did not cave. I am still smoke free. My kitty's name is Courtney. Just a few weeks ago I painted his portrait. I will always have that. I have four other kitties and a dog. Courtney, the oldest, was with me through one third of my life. It is not the same without him. Mercy, you have a Katrina survivor? After the hurricane the rescued animals were sent all over the US for adoption. Our local shelter asked for pet groomers to come and volunteer to bathe and groom the animals. I went along with several others. I have never seen animals so frightened. In a strange place, with strange people, after the experience of the hurricane to lose their entire families, everyone they know and love. They lost their children! I have to tell you about animals from the pound or rescued when they are groomed. They know what's happening to them, and they know that nothing bad will happen to them. Grooming is their security. They know that they are given baths and haircuts because they are loved and wanted and now they will go home.
