Khris you'll do great! Enjoy the trip and seeing your friend! Some great suggestions already listed. You probably won't even need one, but I remember once you said you forgot to take a Zanax with you and that made you anxious. I know just carrying one with you can make you relax and not even need it. Best wishes, I'm pulling for you. Let us know how it goes. -Jeff
Khris, Brenda had some great ideas. Definitely take books on tape or self-help tapes (a favorite of mine) when you go tomorrow. I also take with me all of my comfort items that I use at home (chamomile tea, heating pad, relaxation tape, etc). I let a family member or friend who helps me with anxiety know that I may need to call so that they are aware in advance I may need support. But, like Brenda, I mostly try to concentrate on the things I want to do when I'm away. I always ask myself "Rachele is this excitement not anxiety?" because once you have had an attack sometimes its hard to tell the difference. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. Rachele
Khris,
It is generally how we do things but not how we HAVE TO DO THINGS!! Start thinking about the scenery you'll get to see. What music could you take along to either "jam to" or "relax" to as you're driving? Maybe stop by a Cracker Barrel restaurant and rent a book on tape to listen to during the drive---get two---one for the trip to and one for the trip home!! Will the hotel you're staying in have a swimming pool---pack your swimsuit or maybe a pair of shorts and sneakers so you can walk on the treadmill. OR take a pair of comfy PJs and plan on room service or have a pizza delivered while you kick back and relax in your room. Force your mind to concentrate on the positives and banish the "stinkin' thinkin'"
You'll be fine and I will be wishing you a wonderful trip tomorrow! Sending good vibes your way, Brenda ;)
I am driving by MYSELF 5 hours tomorrow to see a friend and do some business for my job. I will spend the night and head home the next day. FIVE HOURS driving hiways all by myself!!!!! The thought alone makes me want to panic. Now, of course I have already gone over every single horrible thing that could possibly happen to me out there. That is just how we do things, right??!!
