30 day challenge, share you experience

17 years ago 0 695 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks guys for the post & encouragement CrazyAuntAgnes, I look really stupid with the tinfoil hat on smoking a plastic straw!! Anna, Sullydog JUST knowing that this will pass.. and that people that have been in this place can share their crazy nicotine control experiences is wonderful!! Blue Cloud, You are right.. I want a quick fix so bad.. but it does not exist. Yes, I know, this is the right choice.. And the hardest choice... Committed, but just wish it was a little easier.. Penguin, I did take a 2 hour nap, actually more tossing & turning... but I have never smoked in the bed so that made it a safe haven.... Kelly, Sunday is just a bad day for me.. But I have been on the 7mg patch for a week now.. I may have to keep some gum close buy next Sunday, that will be the day I stop using the patch altogether!! Alohakeia, Rewards.. I have a tough time with that.. I guess my two hour pity party in the bed this afternoon was a kinda of reward.. I am usually doing so much laundry, grocery shopping, transporting kids, and put up with my smoking husband.. that I never nap or rest much any more. I do need to come up with some kind of reward for Monday.. hi doodles, i know there is some truth to what is being described as the 30 day pit. seems like the days are harder around the milestones. for some reason today was hard at work, having thoughts of smoking every time i sold a pack...kind of like romancing them...its the demons last ditch effort to reel us back in. we need to dig in our heels and forge through the next couple days. we are going to get through this time and we will be that much stronger for the next milestone. one day at a time doodles...hang in there! we Mustquiteers will prevail!! Doodles, Look at you! Searching out and bumping relevant posts, preparing for possible challenges! You are quite the quitter! My two cents is; plan a reward for this milestone. You and the Mustquiteers deserve them!!! I think that we all have our good days and our bad days. With time, the bad days are few and far between. A few weeks ago I had about an hour of a crave/thought. It is like a small part of me wants one but the better part of me knows I REALLY don't. I did crave alot around 30, 60, and 90 days even though I didn't look for those cravings. When I was experiencing them and checked my stats, I realized I was right on schedule. This is do able. You just have to WANT it more than you WANT to smoke! Hope this helps, remember, everyone is different so have you OWN quit! Having quit a few times now, I do believe that there is such a thing as the 30 day pit, for me anyway. I've been in it a few times. Thing that helps the most. Knowing that it occurs! And then....knowing that it ends. It is temporary and as long as you do not smoke, things will be looking different soon. Keep doing what you have been doing up till now. If you need to get under the covers and hide, well...do that. (That's what I do - my hubby wouldn't say that is coping, but you know what - he's not a quitter.) You are doing great doodles. Brighter days, and then really bright days are ahead. Hang tuff with us. Another thought... Do you think these cravings may have something to do with stepping down to the 7mg patch? I think you said you did that this week, as well. Either way, you're doing a great job and before you know it you will be fine, feeling great and oh so much stronger! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 870 Amount Saved: $169.65 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 15 Mins: 22 Seconds: 9

Hey fellow MustQuiteer. Sorry to hear you are having a rough time today. I too have had these weird, unexpected urges for the past few days. One moment I'm fine and occupied with whatever and then I get this thought of having a cigarette and w/in a millisecond I have this physical pang that I can't even decribe. Something that comes from my center and feels like it's pulling my chest toward it. Very odd. It's happened a handful of times in the last few days and surprises and scares me each time. However, it goes away just as fast as it came. Thank goodness. When it happens, I just think to myself, "that's odd and disturbing but, I'm not going to do that." (that being whatever the junkie is telling me to do - like bum a smoke from my ex for some odd reason.) And then it's gone. Poof! Way to go on four fabulous smoke-free weeks! Rock on, Doodles! Rock on, MustQuiteers! Doodles, I think we all have had a rough time at some points in our quits, stay strong you know this will pass. Take a nice long walk, go some where smoking is not an options just stay busy and before you know it the urge will be gone. We are all here for you if and when you need us. Doodles, milestones can be difficult because we are so conditioned to reward ourselves with a smoke. We feel good about making that milesone & let our guard down enough that the junkie sneaks in & tells us she's waited patiently and she wants her reward. Don't listen to her & do whatever you have to do to shut her up, try a tinfoil hat! ;p Go back to your coping strategies from the first few days if you have to, doodles. Whatever worked for you then will work for you now. Just like you got through that tough time, you will get through this one. It won't last long and you know we're all here for you. Take my hand if you need it & here, hold this lint ball for me, & now you can't light up! Hey Doodles, It is ruff, I don't know what to say except that it will get better. I was not sure if my triggers were for smoking or depression or craves or panic attacks. It seems like when it hit it was just everything combined. I really tryed not to whine on the post but then again that is why we are here. Some how writing it all down, even if it don't make sense, seems to help. Nicotine is a powerful substance. It will go to extremes to make you think you need it. I see post on here quite often that say the cravings today were awfull and these people have months under thier belts. Maybe we are still looking for a quick fix. Maybe our brains are trying to reroute transmitters that were coated with nicotine. Maybe we are unsure of a way to deal with simple emotions. I don't have the answers, I am still searching just like you. I do know that I am better than I was when I smoked. Even on the bad days I am calmer and my heart is not racing out of my chest. Redirect your thoughts. The one thing we can control is our thoughts. I just know next week will be better for you.The only thing we really know is that we are better for not smoking. It makes you sick. My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,620 Amount Saved: $324.00 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 19 Mins: 38 Seconds: 44
