What about nearly setting fire to the car when the lit cigarette end flies back into the car and you're going at speed. Yes, driving too is less complicated when you don't smoke. G'morning, all! It seems to me that I don't have to put nearly the effort into not smoking as I did INTO smoking! Really, all I have to do is not smoke. I don't have to make sure I have smokes & a lighter. I don't have to think ahead to where I can go to smoke, don't have to almost crash my car for trying to get one out of my purse when I'm driving. Mostly, I don't have to go through the exhausting process of constantly coming up with excuses and justifications to myself & my family for continuing to feed the addiction. All I have to do is not smoke! I don't find it at all burdensome to remain vigilant, I find it freeing & I thank myself for doing it. I also thank all of you for helping me do it! Good morning Bear, I always dreaded the idea of being forever vigilant to keep the addict in check, 24/7. It really seem to be getting almost effortless as of late. I don't think it'll be so bad. There is a very enlightening program on TV each week on A&E Called "Intervention". It is about addictions of all sorts, alcohol, drugs, prescriptions drugs, you name it, and how the people struggle through it, Some recover and some don't. It is a very good program to watch because it is eye opening to see how bad it can reaaly get. I have watched it several times and considered how the addiction of nicotine could affect my life, if I don't stay quit! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 194 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,850 Amount Saved: $2,046.70 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 17 Mins: 20 Seconds: 0

You hardly ever hear the word addiction used when it comes to things that aren't bad for you. My ex is a triathlete, a geezerjock, addicted to the dopamine rush you get from swimming running bicycling. Daily training in one or more of these and cross training, aerobics, yoga, ballroom dance, weight training, speed training. Everything in her life takes a backseat to training her body for more endurance, strength, and speed. Not a bad thing. Just an addiction. This morning I started my day reading some of the threads posted here. Many of them contain a lot of insite and help for people who are in the process of quitting the use of nicotine .This is the place you need to be if you want to quit smoking. My attention has also been drawn to what I call the central issue here called " addiction".Some have said I,m an addict no big deal so what and have indicated that we are all addictive to some degree or another . Others see addiction as something you need to be on your guard about 24/7 so to speak.I have no opinion one way or the other but would find it very unconfortable standing at attention for the rest of my life what ever length that should be.I also found this definition of Addiction "A recurring irrational need to perform some action often despite negative consequences" So you may say "whats your point old man" and I would say "nothing I was just " thinking out loud " ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 179 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,222 Amount Saved: $1,790.00 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 21 Mins: 18 Seconds: 32
