Need Support

Melissa, Katie and Gloria, thanks for replying to encourage me! I am trying to find a psychiatrist now to get meds. Not really having full blown attacks now but a general low level of anxiety and obsessive negative/worried thoughts. Its all very draining, and the foggy, disconnected feeling!!! Uugghh! Thanks for writing me though, it does help me when I read others' experiences and support. Rachele

Hi Rachele, I hope that you are feeling better. I know exactly how you feel. I also deal with depression which isn't the best combo. You are lucky to have a boyfriend that is supportive too. I just wish that this wasn't part of our genetic make-up but this is the way we are wired and we have to deal with it the best we can. You got my support! I hate setbacks and I wish they never happen. In fact, I would rather have a nasty rash than experience anxiety! For sure! Take care, Gloria

Setbacks are expected, unfortunately, with panic disorder. Those of us who have been suffering for a long time know exactly how you feel. You think you've beaten it, and then, there it is again. It's important to not let yourself get too down over it. Just because you had a bad time doesn't mean you'll keep having them. It could have been triggered by a specific situation, something you ate, or hormones. You sound like you did all the right things. It's amazing how the TV and the computer can be your best friends when you're alone. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. Don't give up! katie

Thanks guys! I appreciate the support. Khris, I agree with you that a help line would be wonderful. Or a buddy system like in the AA program! In anycase, I'm willing to chat with people whenever I am near the computer and available. My yahoo messenger id is rae_lynn65 and my aol messenger id is RacheleRLynn. I leave the computer running all day and night but often wander in and out of the room it is in so if I don't answer right away give me a chance to return to the room. Thank you again for the kind words. Rachele

Hi Rachele- I know how you feel. After a year of feeling comfortable and living a more normal life, my panic is back and worse than it was when it started. I don't really know how you can find a good counselor, but just find one! If he or she helps, then its good. I am back in pyschotherapy and fixing to start psychiatric care as well. My family practice Dr. reccomended a good counselor, maybe your's can do the same? Overall, I would encourage you to come up with a plan to get help and follow through with it, if you find it isn't working quite right, you can always adjust and correct it along the way. Keep us posted! Jay

I wish we had a hot line to call in times like those. There is nothing worse than being alone because then you just dwell on it. Those that last longer than 5 min. I pop TWO Xanax. I dread evenings because that is when my panic is the worst. During the day I am just too busy to pay it attention. We need a 1800-I-Need-Help!

If your boyfriend works out of town, you are probably lonely. I would be.

Good Morning Everyone! I just needed to vent alittle and get some support. Last night was HIDEOUS for me. My anxiety was triggered about two weeks ago out of the blue, nothing in particular, but I thought it had started to fade these last couple of days. I had even told my boyfriend on the phone last night (he works out of town) that I was feeling a bit better. Then about 9pm WHAM! Out of the blue comes a full-blown €œshould I take myself to the psych hospital€ panic attack. This is weird too cause they usually are stronger in the morning and I do ok at night. I ended up taking a xanax which I haven€™t done in several years. And I actually went to sleep with the tv on, my laptop on the nightstand on (thank goodness for wireless), and a relaxation tape running. I€™m very discouraged cause it seems the cognitive-behavioral tools that I learned are not working this time, like I can€™t focus on them €“ the fear is so strong it overwhelms them €“ or maybe I am losing faith in them. I don€™t know. I feel like its time to find a psychiatrist and a therapist though I€™m not sure how to find a good one, I wish there was someone I could ask for a recommendation. Help, what do I do with these things now?!?! Thanks for listening. Rachele
