I didn't endorse it Tom, unless I did so by smoking. I was addicted long before I was old enough to vote. Back in the sevenites how often did you hear about cigarettes causing cancer????? Not once that I remember, but then how many sixteen year olds listened to the news then...how many listen to it now? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 187 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,675 Amount Saved: $1,972.85 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 21 Mins: 24 Seconds: 19

We could spend our fortunes going after corporations and government officials trying to get them to admit they are to blame. Even if we do get some sort of admission we will still be were we are today unless we stop blamestorming and being a part of the problem. Let's step up and admit WE were wrong. Admit that it wouldn't be a problem if WE hadn't indorsed it, each and every one of us. If there were no market for it there would be no money in it for anyone. WE DID IT! The accountability for the problem and the solution is YOURS...and mine. Aloha, Thanks for the great information. Also keep in mind that everyone of you have the power to make differences in your communities. If nobody is talking to the kids at school about tobacco - volunteer yourself! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Well put Greger, my sentiments exactly. Like i mentioned in a previous post, the tobacco giants have been increasing the nicotine content in tobacco over the years to pack a bigger punch. Now you get a bigger bang for your buck, it is now quicker to get hooked & harder to quit. this post makes for some interesting reading ... keep it coming. Now you've got me thinking, i haven't seen any stop smoking ads on tv here in NZ for the past 2 years, guess they took them off cos they were working ?. Tom, That was very well said. Now here's a thought that might make you sit back and ponder for just a moment. There is a multi billion dollar industry set up to "help" people stop smoking. The patch, the gum, the drugs, all of these are a part of Big Pharma. Do they really want you to quit and stop buying their product? Are they out to help you? No. They are out to get your money. What do you suppose the profit margin is on that expensive chewing gum? Costs a lot more than Doublemint doesn't it. In fact it costs just slightly less than smoking. Will the money you save by quitting pay for the Chantix? Pretty close huh? Now why do you suppose that is? Coincidence? Ya right. The government is doing a fair job, making it expensive, making it hard to smoke in most places. Banning most advertisements and trying to educate the public. The only way to stop smoking is to stop people from starting. Once you start you're in for a lifetime of addiction. Who among us didn't know that tobacco was a bad thing when we started? Anybody? Who wasn't told that they would get "hooked"? Who among us listened? And now you want the pusher to help you stop buying his drugs? My grandmother was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. This was a group back in the 20s that worked tirelessly for prohibition of alcohol. And they won. For a while. When there is no one left to use tobacco, there will be no market. Same with alcohol. Same with drugs. And that will only happen one user at a time.
