Rusty Yep thats it, for me the tight rope is the line between the two selves...I for one will no longer be a "mid-night tight rope walker"... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 243 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,290 Amount Saved: $1,701.00 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 9 Mins: 32 Seconds: 24

Excellent, nonic. When we quit, we do have two selves -- the self that is still addicted (call it Little Self, Child Self, or Junkie Self) and the self that is moving up and beyond (the Real Self). Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate the two, especially in early days or during difficult times. The more we listen to our Real Self, the stronger that voice becomes and our Junkie Self grows smaller and smaller. Or call it Big Me, Little Me. Little Me wants the cookies NOW. Little Me whines about what I can't get, or shouldn't have. Little Me blames others. Big Me understands that what I eat today shows up on my hips tomorrow. Big Me helps others instead of always seeking help. Big Me sees the big picture, the long view. I love your threads! Cigarettes Not Smoked

16 years ago 0 813 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I had a dream last night... Imagine that each time you light a cigarette, you are stepping out on a tight rope. The rope is stretched 100 feet in the air. Each end of the rope is secured to a tower, because of the height of the supports, they sway slightly as the breeze from below carries the voices of all the dead and dying smokers that have passed this way before you. It is even more surreal because the atmosphere is like a circus and the smell of popcorn and sounds of excited children blend into a single olfactory and auditory chant. In your hand is a balancing bar. It is weighted on one end by sickness, the other end is labled bad self image. Now for the love of nicotine you will walk out on that rope one more time. You have safely traversed the span many times before, smoking is that important to you. But somewhere deep in the part of your psyche that is still free of the addiction comes a small soft voice that tells you in no uncertain terms that this could be your last attempt. This could be the one that takes you on an unscheduled trip to eternity. That last voice is the one that is keeping you quit now. You have the ability to listen to it. You have the ability to strengthen and nurture it until it becomes a single symphony of sound that lifts you up, further and further, until the tight rope is a distanct memory. Do not be afraid of doing this, be more afraid of not hearing the voice and tending to its message... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 243 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,290 Amount Saved: $1,701.00 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 9 Mins: 28 Seconds: 53
