Welcome Esperanza!!! Glad you are here!!! I have been using Chantix and today is 2 weekks. I found that when I start to feel uptight, I close my eyes and breath real deep. I focus on my lungs filling with fresh air and that I do not need a cig hanging out of my mouth to enjoy breathing. I think of the breathe hitting deep into my lungs and clearing out the years of toxins. Please use this website,it really does help that we are all here for the common cause... God bless Cal

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

welcome esparanza, I would get those cigs far, far, away from me...out of the house. You can do this; dwell on the positive aspects of quitting for there is nothing positive about smoking. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 71 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,704 Amount Saved: $355.00 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 21 Mins: 33 Seconds: 44

Hi Esperanza Congratulations on your decision. What a wonderful gift you're giving yourself and your family! If you havent done so already, you can download the quit program tools. The workbook is very helpful. Sounds like you are doing well with the water, crystal light, etc. I think self talk and attitude is very important. If you say to yourself that this is a good thing, and you are giving yourself helath and extra money and your son will be proud of you it is more likely you will remain smoke free. If you tell yourself you are suffering and this is a horrible thing, it is more likely you will not succeed. I used to have a dialogue with myself. I'd acknowledge that I felt like smoking, but then I'd tell myself I wasn't going to. I'd ask myself why I wasn't going to, then I'd answer, sometimes loudly, "Because I'm a non smoker and nonsmokers don't smoke!" Lots of deep breathing...chewing and blowing through a straw sometimes. Pamper yourself this week. Rest when you need to, watch dvds, take long hot baths or showers. You can do this...and it does get better. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 134 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,360 Amount Saved: $911.20 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 18 Mins: 6 Seconds: 10

good luck this is my second quit in 12 months.. I am using the patch and this is day 5 for me... Not too bad.. I have no energy, but I am motivated.. My last quit, I thought I could just have one a day... That led right back to a pack a day. So NOPE is the self talk for me.. not one puff ever!!!! I am a little worried, my husband is a smoker and will be home today. I ask him to lock his cigs in his car and that i did not want to see him smoke.. read & post great book Allen Carr My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 80 Amount Saved: $12.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 39 Seconds: 56

Esperanza, Welcome to the SSC and congrats on day 1! The first week is the toughest so be sure to utilize your coping strategies, distractions and rewards to see you through. Also be sure to take the time to work through the online quit program if you haven't already. Keep us posted. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi all....well, this will be my third quit. I quit for my pregnancy back in 94/95 and stayed quit for just about a year. Then I quit back in 99 when I got pregnant again, but started right back up after we lost the baby at 5 months. Now I am ready again. I started taking Chantix 11 days ago, and my last cig was last night. It's almost 12:30pm now and I still haven't had one. BUT I still have a pack and a half in the house, under the care of my son who is adamant about my quitting. He is to keep track of how many I have, if any. I'm starting a brand new job next Friday and want to be smoke free by then. (I've always hated being one of those smokers that went out back on every break) I'm drinking my crystal light, water, eating healthy snacks, and trying my best to stay busy. This is rough though. I don't crave as often as I would as a cold turkey quit, and the cigs taste nasty to me now, but I'm hoping to get past all the ickyness. My hubby is going to start his Chantix either today or tomorrow. I made it clear to him that I may not stay quit unless he quits too. And he says he's ready, so we'll see. Wish me luck! I'm on dial up, but part of the money we save will go towards DSL in a couple months!!
