So IS Chantix like Wellbutrin?

16 years ago 0 541 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Below is my opinion, not advice okay? Chantix is Verenicline Tartrate, it is also sold under the name Champix in Europe and Canada. Welbutrin is an anti-depressant and used to treat depression. Verenicline Tartrate is for quitting smoking. According to the manufacturer you are supposed to REMIND your doctor if you are taking: insulin a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); or theophylline (Respbid, Theobid, Theoclear, Theo-Dur, Uniphyl) because some doctors may not be aware that it changes the affectiveness of both meds. They also say that if you are prego or become prego, this is supposably dangerous stuff for the newborn. There is a lot you need to read before just going along with what your doctor says so get all the info FIRST! Although my wife and I used Chantix. I worry about it, I think like most of the new meds out on the market today this stuff is dangerous. Lets face it, they may be incorporated and have a nice shiny building but a drug manufacturer is a nice name for a drug dealer and drug dealers should not be trusted! I am no doctor, but I can tell you that there are a lot of idiots out there, so don't trust anyone 100%. Always talk to a licensed Pharmacist as well as your doctor about a med. I like to form my own opinion before walking into my doctors office. I am fortunate that my doctor is smart as a whip and is up on how to resolve many problems without meds. But I still question him and give him the opportunity to provide resoning to any medication he may prescribe. If you are about to quit, go cold turkey - I mean just quit! It is three days of hell then intermittent waves of tension that is completely gone after 90 days. You will live! If that fails THEN ask your doctor about the Verenicline as a last resort. I would stay away from patches and gum, to me that is like telling an alcoholic to cut down by drinking beer instead of hard liquor. It doesn't make sense, Nicotine is what you want out of your system and you want it out ASAP, not a long slow craving! Question EVERYTHING when it comes to meds. Have you noticed that drug manufacturers treat symptoms not problems? Once on a drug, it is nearly impossible to get off it. Sound familiar? Someday people will get with it, until then we are mere sheep being herded to the pasture. I think Pot would be legal if someone like Phyzer had a patent on it. But I know that nobody will listen to me so I bough stock in the pharmas! K, I'm now stepping down off my soapbox now. I tried wellbutrin once. It was aweful. Crying jags....and I freaked out when I got tremmors. I never tried chantix...but my daughter is doing so great on it. I didn't hear about chantix with this quit till I was a month or so quit. I wish I had heard about it. It may have made my quit easier. Ewww - Wellbutrin was not my friend! Actually I almost lost friends taking it! I am very easy going but on Wellbutrin I lost the "tact" trigger and said exactly what was on my mind with no filter. Not pretty! I LOVE Chantix. I feel great and have had no serious side effects - like being a mean, nasty, b$#$h! Good luck to you! Pharmacists can also look this stuff up and bypass the sales BS that goes with it. PS Thanks for being here with this question right now. It got my attention when I was about to post for some support myself! (just one of those frustrating nights) Helping you a little bit (hopefully) made it easier for me to stop in, slide out, and go to bed smoke free:) Thanks, mk My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 120 Amount Saved: $30.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 22 Mins: 4 Seconds: 35

No. I too have tried Wellbutrin and Chantix and they are both completely different. I agree with Sparky that Chantix works. When I took Wellbutrin to prepare for my quit, all it did was make my cigarettes taste bad. (Remember the feeling of having a cigarette after a trip to a highly chlorinated swimming pool? or some deep house cleaning? They taste yucky(er:) On Chantix - the taste of smoking was always the same but a part of your brain will just make it easier for you to pass them up when you're ready to pull the cord... and start experimenting with saying goodbye. It's hard to explain, but you'll know what we mean if you try it:) The main thing is to work on your resolve and reasons for quitting and staying quit. You'll need to learn to deal with lots of emotions without cigarettes some day if you're serious about your quit. It's a real growth spurt! but so worth it... I could tell you lots more right now, but I'll shut up and wait for more questions when you're ready:) Goodnight, and sweet dreams about a Yorkie Mom who's just as beautiful inside someday without having to put tar into her lungs every 20 minutes or so without a choice... I have tried everything and Chantix works. I don't understand it, but it has worked for me. I would suggest you take it with food and water. Some say they get an upset stomach, I never had one. As far as making feel different, not really. You are still going to have to go though withdrawal, but it is manageable. And you must really want to quit. There is help, but you have to put forth the effort. Good luck. I wouldn't be here with out this site and the help and understanding of a good doctor who suggested Chantix. Oh, there are dreams with the Chantix. Nothing like the ones you get with patch. They are usally pleasant. Hi Yorkie Mom, I took Wellbutrin and I did not have a bad reaction but it did nothing to help me stop smoking. Chantix has done the trick so far for me. Hope this helps :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 154 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,080 Amount Saved: $1,001.00 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 19 Mins: 7 Seconds: 7

Yorkie Mom I also took Wellbutrin and had a bad reactions to it, I really am doing quite well on the Chantix, but everyone is different. I guess the only way that you will know if it will work for you is to try it and hopefully you will have the same good results that I am having.
