Today it was grapes! Those crunchy red seedless ones. The fruitman comes by a couple times a week so I'm stocked up on mangoes, peaches, a water melon and what's left of the grapes. I always walk the dogs a half mile or so every night. Dogs are too slow though and once I'm not quite so twitchy and nervie I'll start running a bit. Geez Ggregor - at that rate, you will be huge! 1000 pounds?! Whew! But even at 1000 lbs you won't look nasty holding and cigarette and in the end, isn't that what matters? Seriously though - I actually lost a LOT of weight my last quit because I was determined not to be one of those people that gained when they quit. I did great and reached my goal while on my quit. Just exercise and remember the calories when you reach for that fix to ease the craving. SF candy, fruit, cheese sticks are great choices. My fix for today are SF FF pudding and jello. Also, eat more frequently - good for metabolism anyway. Good luck! There are many ways to maintain and lose the weight sometimes put on by smoking! Use your doctor to help you come up with a plan that is right for you and your body! Start slow and move your way forward. Take on one task a week. Increase your water intake, step up the walking and even introduce stretches into your relaxation techniques. Step by step you will fair well. Let us know what works for you! Josie, Support Specialist

Good morning ggreger and rusty :) I think it doesn't take much to burn off 200 calories. LOL that's another thing the junkie's always trying to get me with. Rusty, just wondering how 3galeh is doing? Just breathe......ahhhhhhhhh My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 100 Amount Saved: $24.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 12 Mins: 54 Seconds: 4

They say that smoking burns 200 calories a day. That means that the day you quit, you've got that extra 200 calories just sitting there, waiting to pack onto your...well, in my case, my butt. Plus, I think in those earliest days, we're doing more sitting and stressing and eating and posting and eating. A consistent exercise program will probably help you as well as watching what you eat. Perhaps start with walking 10 or 15 minutes a day and then build up. And you are lucky to be a man in this instance...you probably won't have as much trouble getting rid of it as we middle-aged women do (except for 3galeh and her cabbage diet!) Cigarettes Not Smoked

Remember the first pound you gained after you stopped smoking? I just watched it go by on the scale, wasn't sure whether to count just one, then there were two. I started at a tall, fairly skinny 208 pounds. My doctor grumbles if I go under 200. Last night the scale read 210. That's two pounds in four days which could be extrapolated to 50 pounds in one hundred days, 182.5 pounds in a year, 912 pounds in five years. Now, considering that in five years I will weigh well over 1000 lbs on my present course, perhaps some small change might be in order. I don't know just where to begin these changes, I'm right now at the heaviest I really want to be but am willing to accept that another ten pounds might go by before I am able to get a handle on this, last quit I gained about 30 pounds and really really don't want to go there again. Once gained that weight is a beast to get back off.
