Cigarettes Not Smoked

okay, first day went pretty well, actually stopped the dipping a couple days ago then just nursed the last pack of smokes along til this morning. I've been practicing quitting and paying close attention to each cigarette to see how much I actually enjoyed it. Turns out it wasn't much, just sort of automatic, sometimes I never knew I was smoking til I put it out. I dropped a few kitchen matches in my pocket this morning so everytime I reached for a smoke I could just suck on a matchstick for a while. Ate some fruit on my breaks but I'd prefer not to get in the habit of shoving food in my face all the time. I've done that before and it means 30 pounds to lose later. I felt kind of like I was high all day, maybe more oxygen? LOL sort of forgetful, drifting around the shop, just keeping my hands busy. I will actually finish the stop smoking book tonight, kinda jumped the gun on quitting but I wasnt gonna buy a pack just to get me through the last couple chapters. I spose it would be too much to hope for that it's all going to go as easy as today did.

Hi Greger, How's your first day going? I relapsed for a short time but got back on Chantix to help with the crazy feelings. Are you using a nicotine replacement therapy or just diving in without? Just wondered, because I'm a real weenie - but - if I can do it, so can you:) Hang in there G! mk My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 45 Amount Saved: $11.25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 9 Mins: 14 Seconds: 4

Are you counting down? I wonder what time it is there for you? You can do this! Maybe you can get together your ashtrays and lighters and matches. That way you will be ready to throw them away! Do you have candy, gum, toothpicks, straws, maybe a water bottle? Some of us used a water bottle. It helps with the oral fixation in the early quit....We are all here for you. Take it one day at a time. ?Lolo My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 114 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,280 Amount Saved: $513.00 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 8 Mins: 16 Seconds: 56

There will be lots of folks here on Friday to help bolster you then and beyond. You don't have two addictions...just one....nicotine. Don't make it heavier for yourself than it is. Gregor.... I don't know much about dipping. Actually is sounds disgusting.. LOL Anyway.... I think nicotine is nicotine. We grab it anyway we can. That is why there is some people that are addicted to the nicorette gum. Will you be using a NRT. I know many are against it. It worked for me. Either way.... make sure you have the quit real planned out. Have you thought about what you will do when you get up in the morning?....get out of work?....after dinner? ...yadda yadda. You know...all those highight times. Have what you will do in place..NOW. Don't be fumbling when you are craving. My worst time was after work. I left myself no time to think. I RIPPED MY CLOTHES OFF...(yes...put other clothes on) and went powerwalking with my dog. By the time I was done....I felt great. maybe... a powerwalk after work....the newpaper with coffee in the morning....bible reading before bed... Just set up a new routine and stick with it. It is more than just nicotine.....it is making a new you. Hang in there. You sound real determined. Gregor, Welcome and congrats on great determination! Good for you for being prepared, now step it up! Use coping mechanisms and avoidance techniques and get yourself moving. This addiction was a big part of your day and you need to be ready. Do chores, go for a walk, grab a hobby and start living! You will find you have lots of extra time, so get in there and use it wisely. Of course don't forget to relax yourself once in awhile and do what you enjoy, the chores can wait one more day :) Josie, Support Specialist
