Faith Welcome and yes do come in out of the shadows...Good to have your input...I am glad that you are looking for the reasons that you smoke...I truly believe that once we get a handle on the why, the how to quit gets easier...I used this site to good effect over the past months...The people here are very supportive, they all know that the best way to quit is to help someone else do the same...Sort of the law of universal returns...Good to have you along... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 232 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,960 Amount Saved: $1,624.00 Life Gained: Days: 42 Hrs: 10 Mins: 23 Seconds: 28

Wow John, you're so right! This site can forsure be a great motivator. I'm so thankful for all the replies I received SIMPLY by reaching out. Today has been emotional. I was late putting on the patch by about 4 hours and I could feel the junkie come alive. I started craving ... feeling angry and deprived. Basically feeling like 'poor ole me'. THAT WAS NOT HELPFUL!!! I can't afford to play around with that kind of thinking. Once I put my new patch on I began to feel more centered again. More focused and grateful to be smokefree. Today is a good day to be not smoking! Hello Faith, With a name like that, How can You not kick the addiction, You know Faith, when I quit on here over 4 years ago, I said to myself, There is NO WAY, that I am gonna quit smoking on this website, my Sister pointed me in this direction, and it worked for Her, But I had little faith in myself to Quit, for I'd tried too many time before, The Clincher is, after a week or two on here without a cigerette, I opened my eyes, and looked around, and I said, Golly Gee, Here were people from Canada, England, France, Austrailia, Italy, Ireland, United States, Saying to me, 'Come On John' You can do it, let's hold hands and take one day at a time, and Gee, days turned into weeks, weeks into months, months into years, and here I am today, 4 years later, I do love my lifestyle of living today, and never will I go back down that road of being addicted to cigerettes, You look Better, You feel Better, and You most times, smell like a Rose, smell Better, I love the 3 B's, So I would have to say Faith, Make these People on here, Who are supporting You, Your MOTIVATION TO QUIT, It worked for me, and make this Your Home, the next 2 or 3 months, NO ONE, will cheer You on like the People on this website, Believe me, Been there, Done that, Good Luck in Your Journey, Smokless In Oklahoma :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/10/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1618 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 48,540 Amount Saved: $6,925.04 Life Gained: Days: 378 Hrs: 9 Mins: 46 Seconds: 48

Good Morning Faith Faith Yes distractions are key to quitting and to stay quit. When you desire a smoke a substitute thingy is in order such as carrot sticks, celery, straws to twiddle with or bite on, water while driving, taking a walk, breathing exercises, weight exercise, aerobics What distraction or coping tools will work for you? Make a list of them. When you crave or are triggered to smoke employ your coping tools. The no dwelling is a coping tool however using something you can touch, smell, and chew along with it are some other ideas. Get into some physical activities even if it is just a short 5 minute walk several times a day. We have to find you a replacement part for that man whom you trusted to be your companion all these years, the nicodemon! Day 7 for you get up and be active! Im glad that you are quitting before age 50. A 50 year old person looks ridiculous smoking. Wouldnt you agree? Faith Bravo for stepping out here. As you can see, we love to greet dedicated quitters. I almost said newcomer, but you are definitely not that. So, one week tomorrow....what is your reward???? You deserve one, you know. For the week, plus the bravery of posting. Please take this one step at a time, and just don't smoke through each day, each hour, each crave..one at a time. And remember, smoking will not solve anything, or resolve emotional "stuff". Will you make a pledge to post and wait for a response before smoking? That is one way you can show yourself that you are moving towards the goal of wanting to remain smoke free more than desiring to smoke. I look forward to making this journey with you. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 144 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,760 Amount Saved: $979.20 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 4 Mins: 39 Seconds: 27

Thanks so much for responding! You know, I think about all the reasons I don't want to be a smoker ... the one that is the most effective is that I want to learn how to really live this life I've been given. I have no clue how to do that at this point. I've been living behind a 'smokescreen' for too many years. Missing out on so much. There are so many things that I've got no clue about. Like real emotions for one thing. I am really uncomfortable with my feelings. Good, bad and everything in between. I don't communicate worth a crap. My social skills are pathetic and I know it is because it just been me and my smokes for way too long. Started when I was 15 and I'm 49 now. It's because I'm 49 now that I am starting to realize that if I don't start living life for REAL and make this change NOW I can see that nothing will ever change and life will go on as it always has. What a waste of a life! I keep reminding myself to focus on the solution ... don't dwell on the problem. That seems to help. Well, its time for bed now and even though I'm not sleeping well at all, it's one more successful day and that's all I can ask for!
