Don't beat yourself up over it. Here in the country I live in, if you catch a bad cold, and I often do; they take you off your meds and give you cold medicine. The next day I stopped antidepressants, I was trying to sleep off my cold, and I had the most terrible nightmares that were sort of hallucigentic in feeling, as though now I know what people who suffer from hallucinations must feel like, only it was just a dream. I was so glad to wake up. This happens to me if I sleep in the daytime, in sort of a half asleep way. I don't understand the logic in this treatment over here, they say the medications don't mix, so you have to freak out instead. Wow....I'm not particularly anxious in bed or panicing, or depressed, so I guess it's o.k., but I'm afraid I will be sicker if I have to stay off them for a while. DOes anybody understand this?

Hi Morgaine.. I did the same thing with Zoloft!! I took it for about 5 months or so & was doing great so I tried to weane myself off. Only, my idea of "weaning" was taking one every other night for 2 nights then every third night for a few days, etc. I DID NOT take my dr seriously when he said to wean off slowly & it was a nightmare!! That was one of the worst times for me! Needless to say I started taking them again (the first night I felt the anxiety coming back) but it took about two weeks for them to really get back in my system & about 4 weeks before I felt 100% again. Anyway to answer you question YES I have done something that stupid but I truly didn't know it would have such a serious effect on me & I'm sure you didn't either. I'm doing better now that I've been back on them for about 2 months. How about you?? Are you going to start taking them again? How are you feeling? Chanda

Morgaine - You ask if anyone has done anything as dumb? My personal situation has been one of sustained denial, but I am coming around. For the first few days following my diagnosis, I found it unfathomable that I :8o: (of all people!) could have such a condition or need to take medication for it! Why couldn't I just "get over it?" THAT's my dumb move. The fact that I refused to believe there was something seriously out of whack about me. But the more I looked into the symptoms, the more I realized, yep, its me. :( I have just started on my own treatments and look forward to the day when the tension in my chest finally settles down, my jaw unclenches and I don't need to lay low twice a day as the Xanax works its way through. Perhaps I may reach a point where I too may actually try to get off my meds; cockyness is a tough trait for me to let go of . Until then, I applaud your progress and hope you experience a lot more victories than setbacks. I'm in your corner cheering.

yes - we all try to wean ourselves off meds when we feel better.....you may be experiencing withdrawal from ssris....ie dizziness, etc OR perhaps you are not ready to come off of them yet.....sounds like you are probably not ready to come off the zoloft and if it was making you live a normal life, THANK GOD FOR ZOLOFT...dont look at it as a crutch but as a miracle that it exists if it can help. Also, you can live a healty life with zoloft - ie excercise, eat well, meditgate, etc...good luck

I was doing really well when I was on Zoloft. I got it into my head.. that being the healthy all natural type that I am.. that I could go on some all natural supplements and slowly wean myself off Zoloft. I had my first panic attack in a month and a half today. I was at work... I had a very stressful week, but I had been dealing with it okay - or so I thought. I just can't seem to get it through my head that I need this medication. I was on 50mg a day.. then cut down to 25.. then 25 every other day.. and now I'm in arguments with people... dizzy.. lightheaded.. and most of all TOTALLY DISGUSTED with myself. Has anyone done anything this dumb? Please respond.. I don't want to sound desperate, but I feel so completely and totally horrible now :(. Morgaine
