Sparky Thank you for the honest and thoughful post. I understand the idea of quitting for oneself...It is in fact the only way that it can be done, as far as I can see. I am so pleased that you are doing this and that you are succeeding...Stay well and quit. nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 221 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,630 Amount Saved: $1,547.00 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 10 Mins: 28 Seconds: 44

Sparky, Happy Birthday!! And many more!! your post is so true for me also. My children and Grand children want me to quit and that has translated into pressure on me in the past. Not this time. I'm going to be 62 in December and I don't think I have the time to waste on smoking. I have had my grandkids for the week. Yes I have had some triggers but all in all the pleasure of being with my family far out weights the desire to smoke again. Today marks 30 days for me and the kids sent me a dozen roses. Just for a split second I felt oh no, then I thought this is my quit. they loved me when I smoked and are proud that I am taking care of myself so I will be around longer. I should be proud of myself. I'm still learning to feel good about myself. Because I have smoked so long I have many other emotions that been masked by addiction. I am currently seperated from an acholic husband of 44 years. Alot of changes in my life at such a late age. I'm trying to tackle the smoking now. My wish is that a year from now I will reflect back and know that I have quit smoking for me and my intire life is better for it. Reflections are interesting. Today is my 63rd birthday. I have been thinking about this quit and this last year and what has taken place. A year ago I had stopped smoking. I wanted to be quit by my 62nd birthday. Made it a couple weeks or so, then smoked. September 8th I quit again. That lasted a short time too. Then there were a couple more attempts and more relapses. During that time I met Gonna and Windy and Jan. I met Phil, who in turn introduced to me to Cheermom. In that time I also met Penguin and Ter24. Oh, yes there is Kate from Greece, my first SSC buddy. Then there is Rusty. She has been so much strength for me. Then I met Marie. Why do I mention these people? The one constant during this last year has been these wonderful people. No matter how many times I messed up they were there to help me back on my feet. Also SSC and the wonderful people there were and still continue to me a source of strength for me. Now we are into winter and more attempts. One actually lasted six weeks. Thought I could do it, but again I smoked. Reason, weight, I could not stand it. Funny thing, looking though the journals I keep, my weight is still about the same give or take a 2 or 3 pounds. So there were a couple more failed attempts. Now we come to April 30, 2007, my final quit date. This is the longest I have ever been quit. I cannot nor will I lose this quit. Why? I dont have another one left in me. I never ever want to go though another quit. Some of my quits were mostly for family issues. I would put the patch on when I was around my daughter and her children. Didnt want her to know I had failed again. As soon as she was gone so was my quit. I got honest with her and now I dont have to worry, because I have stopped for ME. Other quits were to be supportive of others, that didnt work either. What I have learned and knew, a quit will not happen unless you and only you want it. I WANT THIS QUIT!!! Sorry this is so long, but it was something I have been thinking about most of the day and wanted to put it out there. SSC thank you for being here for me and for all the others that have benefited from your site. Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 95 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 950 Amount Saved: $285.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 20 Mins: 43 Seconds: 59
