Another great thought provoking post old man, I enjoyed reading this one because in our real world this is what we have been living. I never thought in a million years that I could quit smoking, never thought that I could pilot a multi engine turbo prop; the list goes on and on. Cherie you have grown and grown and I am glad to see you alive and posting again; you were missed and it is good to have you back. It takes so much hard work to learn how to "go with the flow". And even though I can be very good at going with the flow on a lot of days I still have my days where I revert back to being to sensitive & reacting out of fear of not having any control. And when I re-act like I do, sometimes, there's chaotic consequences that usually make me feel so stupid for acting like I did and then I tend to beat myself up for not doing better and reacting better to certain situations. But then sometimes I get myself into these situations which aren't good 4me to begin with. So one day I hope to GOD and I say this with tearfilled eyes, that I will learn how to "go with the flow" more often. There's a spritual flow as well :) Infact I just got this e-mail from a friend titled "go with the flow" so I'll share it... Jesus was no merely soft-spoken Teacher. His Love was so great that He did not hesitate to teach the Law of that Love. Jesus knew that GOD "will not" and "cannot" change HIS Nature to fit our whimsical fancy, bigotry or self-conceit. For just like GOD's stream of Love and Mercy, HIS Justice flows too. We cannot enter this stream without flowing along with it. Whereas, we must "GO WITH THE FLOW." We would love to lay down our burdens and enter into GOD's Sanctuary of Wholeness and Peace. But before we can do this, we must learn that the doorway to the Kingdom of GOD swings both ways. Therefore, what we shut out, also shuts us out. It is well enough to say that we love GOD, that we follow Jesus Christ, and that we seek Salvation, for this is a natural desire for "self-preservation." But do we realize that the Light that flows through Heaven's Gates, flows both ways and excludes none? The idea of Divine Love is so wonderful, we yearn toward it with irresistible desire. We need it as we need no other thing on Earth or in Heaven, We long to enter into its protection, its security, and its Peace. Jesus tells us that if we would experience this Love, we must remain true to its nature. And if we would enter into its wholeness, we must give up that which is in part and un-whole. When Jesus said that "No man putteh a piece of new cloth unto an old garment" and "neither do men put new wine into old bottles", He pointed out one of the subtle mysteries of our Spiritual and Mental Lives. The point Jesus was making was that the most effective way to displace a negative emotion is to find a positive emotion which will absorb the negative emotion. For in this way, hate is swallowed up by Love, and fear dies when FAITH overtakes it. A lot of misery will be redeemed if we would use the transforming power of Love to heal hate, and the radiance of Joy to overcome despair. Yet, we must bear in mind that we cannot serve both GOD and mammon. We cannot attach hate to Love, nor disturb Peace with discord of confusion. We must forsake the one if we would enter the other. So if it's GOD's Love we seek, then we must GO WITH THE FLOW of GOD's righteousness. All blocks in GOD's Stream of Righteousness must be removed so that the original flow may resume its natural course. Jesus knew that when we entertain any thoughts and attitudes that contradicts our union with GOD, we will suffer. And this will happen, not because GOD imposes this suffering upon us, but because we pushed our own selves to interfere with the Spiritual Nature of our being. There is no greater comfort that can be found in all the teachings of Jesus than in His concept of the possibility of finding Heaven "here and now." We all have a sense of condemnation, which at times is so great that it seems impossible to feel our way back to GOD. Yet, the hope and assurance that Jesus gave, enables us to find release, not in some theoretical future, but in the eternal "here and now." Which means that always "TODAY", is the Day of Salvation. TODAY, which is "this" day, extends from eternity to eternity, and is always focused in the present moment. Live & learn is the way I see it :) And don't judge others or ourselves & remember life is a process for a life-time. Just breathe....... Great post Duffis. As you are well aware, I paddled up stream for a very long time. Going with the flow is so much better! I was one who fought my quit and didn't even realize I was doing it. People around here helped me to see what I was doing wrong. One step at a time (very slowly I might add) I learned what I needed to be able to go with the flow. My point is "Don't give up on yourself!" We have to learn how to live smoke free. It isn't something that just comes to us. Duffis, Very well said. Before I read this post my idea of rolling with the flow was a song by Merl Haggard."rollin with the flow, goin where the lonely go." My life is a country song.!! I also hope you don't mind that I copied it to my journal.I need to read it daily for awhile. It is certainly information I should apply to my life. I'm learning more from this site than I ever expected to. I will say thank you for posting. Thank you!! It has been copied and put into my "smoking file." Great read and wonderful way to look at life. I hope you do not mind if I share this with some of my friends in AA. It applies there too. When we stop smoking regardless of motive many things happen in our daily lives that are sometimes just outright weird. We either go along or we fight the things that are occurring some of which we cannot understand. So do we go with the flow or try to go upstream against the things that are happening. The expression going with the flow is a metaphor that applies to navigating a river. When we go with the flow, we follow the current of the river rather than push against it. People who go with the flow may be interpreted as lazy or passive, but to truly go with the flow requires awareness, presence, and the ability to blend ones own energy with the prevailing energy. Going with the flow doesnt mean we toss our oars into the water and kick back in the boat, hoping for the best. Going with the flow means we let go of our individual agenda and notice the play of energy all around us. We tap into that energy and flow with it, which gets us going where we need to go a whole lot faster than resistance will. Going with the flow doesnt mean that we dont know where were going; it means that we are open to multiple ways of getting there. We are also open to changing our destination, clinging more to the essence of our goal than to the particulars. We acknowledge that letting go and modifying our plans is part of the process. Going with the flow means that we are aware of an energy that is larger than our small selves and we are open to working with it, not against it. Many of us are afraid of going with the flow because we dont trust that we will get where we want to go if we do. This causes us to cling to plans that arent working, stick to routes that are obstructed, and obsess over relationships that arent fulfilling. When you find yourself stuck in these kinds of patterns, do yourself a favor and open to the flow of what is rather than resisting it. Trust that the big river of your life has a plan for you and let it carry you onward. Throw overboard those things that are weighing you down. Be open to revising your maps. Take a deep breath and move into the current.
