Couch Potatos Unite! A couch potato's workout thread!

Was Mr. Ed in a race? We all need to follow his example and maybe we would have our extra rolls! I'm planning on helping my husband cut the grass today for exercise (it takes about 45 minutes). After that, I'm certain we'll be watching the Nascar race that was rained out last night. Happy exercising! Yeah, I've managed to gain about 10 pounds on this quit and was trying to lose about 5 or so before that. I've started walking in the mornings. Get my iPod charged up and go, either around the neighborhood or by the walking oval in town. I've discovered on days its not nice enough to walk outside (or have no chance to) that putting on music and dancing around is good too. I did it the other day, and threw in some arm exercises and stuff and got a pretty good aerobic workout. I'm going to try to do something for 20-40 minutes at least 5 days a week, if not every day. That's my story! Well, I wasn't invited to run in the Ky derby. I haven't run in any derby! Nor do I plan to run anywhere! Ever! I am the true couch potato. At work, part of my job is to launch health and wellness programs in the workplace. I started a weight watchers at work program...it's been very successful....but I didn't join. I organized a walking challenge, set goals, awarded prizes, and 54 people walked a total of 9000 miles. I wasn't one of them. Now I have begun an exercise at work program...it's a team challenge kind of thing where everyone sets their individual goals and works as a team to reach them. Since my reputation of a couch potato is beginning to show, I actually signed up to participate. It starts June 4. I don't know what in the hell I am going to do for 30 minutes per day, but... Today my sweetheart bought me a bike. It's got a whole lot of speeds. I fear I may need training wheels again since it's been many years, but he said he will give me a push from the top of the hill, and if I am still on the bike at the bottom of the hill then I don't need training wheels. (and he is still my sweetheart??) Now if he would just put it together before June 4...... I need a better cush for my tush tho, that seat is HARD! It's time now for me to do something about this extra weight. I have focused so fully on my quit that I wasn't really watching what was going in my mouth. As long as it wasn't a cig and wasn't something that was still alive I figured I was safe. Rationalizing much? If I am going to focus on my health, I'd better get off the couch! I challenge you all to join me. 30 minutes per day, and you don't have to do it all at once. 3 ten minute sessions are just as good. If we can quit smoking, how tough can jogging in place for ten minutes at a time be? Anyone want to play? It was an amazing race. I think StreetSmart was 19th and moved up to first! My husband has a friend that was at the race today. Boxerfan: We were rooting for Hard Spun (#8), which is from Hopkinsville, KY, just about 30 minutes from where we live. She was not a favorite, but that little filly held her ground at #2. You have to be amazed at Street Smart. Apparently she has a habit of coming from way behind to take the lead. What a horse!!!!!! Boxer, good to see you on board! Hope some more join us! Even if it's just for 10 minutes a day, in order to work up to 20-30 or more minutes. Anything's better than nothing, right? Gonna, LOVE your exercise plan... and if I lost weight doing it, I'd be a skinny Minnie by now... (sigh) :confuse: Crave the Quit! I suppose I will exercise my fingers here on SSC! :p I had posted a Cinco de Mayo thread, but it got deleted, and that accounted for an extra 12 oz lifting! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 239 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,992 Amount Saved: $1912 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 9 Mins: 33 Seconds: 52
