Kev, I can't believe you were advised to go to a pub. Be strong and unwavering Kev. Hi Sue and Nance, Well spotted. Well I definitely need to do it today. I promise I WILL NOT SMOKE today to my SSC friends and my quit buddy. I will be going to the pub as advised today. Normally this ends my quit within minutes, so I have made preparations. I phoned the barstaff last night to let them know that I will be on day 10 not smoking on Saturday (today) and that I may not stay that long. I plan to spend no more than 2hrs instead of my average 12hrs and have pre-arranged a pickup time too. Lots of planning have gone into it so I hope it helps me not to screw it up. Sue, funny you should ask that! One of my envisioned rewards is a treadmill. I have always wanted one. The rest of the family are set against it though. So the gym it may be. I did some calculations last night as to actually how much I save per week and it is 72. I may try it out. I am the last person you'd normally see in a gym, but maybe the new kev is up for new things! In the meantime, I have been running at the weekends. Only a little bit, but it does help. Great idea! p.s. I love the new photo. Happy smiling and by the sea. p.p.s. Nance it was this day (day 10) that I screwed it last time I think. So make it Sunday and I will be in new uncharted territory. Hey Kev, how about working out - exercising - that really helped me to burn off some worry, frustration, craves, etc...and it helps to fill time. If you can go to a gym, that is social or at home you can crank some good tunes and clear your mind. Hi Kev, I didn't see your daily promise today...I look for that, you know! But I am sure you vocalized it, even if you didn't type it. 8 days now...almost 9... is huge for you! Isn't this your record here lately? I am so happy for you...and you should be proud of all you have already done. Face those fears, my friend! It's the weekend, and you know your triggers. Either face them or avoid them, just don't smoke! Promise??? I'm here! Hi Nance, I am back from the doctors now. So yes that does mean I faced two of my biggest fears (dentists and doctors) in less than 2 months! I did something sensible. I wrote down everything beforehand, like what I have used before, what combination, what worked, what caused me to smoke more. What I have been feeling like, my mental state etc. And then I wrote down everything he said advice wise. Once he realised that I had done 8 days cold turkey he was very impressed and told me just to keep going and doing what I am doing now. So that is hypnosis CD, posting and reading here as much as possible, deepbreathing, walking. He suggested that i work out how much I have saved and start a jar up to spent in 6months time. But also to take some of it for rewards in the meantime (sound familiar)? He suggested that I do go to the pub as getting my social life back will help a great deal. This one I am not so sure about. Maybe 1hr max tomorrow. That I avoid people offering cigaerettes to me. Smoking would be a very bad mistake. (I know that one) That I avoid NRT. The cravings could send me back to smoking. That if I am still suicidal and constantly crying at my desk in two weeks time then to make another appointment. So I did it, I went and got advice. No anti-depressants but I will fight fight fight as I have been doing for the past 8 days. Nance, yes this is THE ONE, and I am treating it as such. I am feeling slightly better and seeing your postive posts help me every day. I have to keep with the post, read, breathe, repeat program. And of course build a positive thought bank in my head. Back to keeping with the moment (not thinking about the future or past) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 200 Amount Saved: 33.60 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 2 Seconds: 30

Kevin, Glad you are able to visit the doctor. Another very positive step in this quit. This is THE ONE, my friend, so do whatever is needed. I will still be here, cheering you on. Hi Danielle, thanks. I may be an example of what a positive push in the right direction can achieve. I hope the people who have posted support feel some sense of achievement, because I would not have made it this far without them. I am still very much a work in progress however. So today is day 9!! I didn't get much sleep but when I dropped off ... I was quite glad to wake up this morning as I was dreaming about smoking 20 cigs. I know this is quite common so not worried about it. I think it could have been brought about by everyone at work strongly suggesting I chew on NRT gum to stop me blubbering like a baby. I of course am resisting doing anything that I see as a spiral to my quit ending. Anyway, I am working up on my confidence to see the doctor today. Managed to get an appointment for 11am. Here's hoping ...
