Lost in Misery

17 years ago 0 989 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
The hardest thing about quitting for me was the depression. Wondering if I would ever feel like myself again. I too was in the midst of family problems - placing my Mom in an Alzheimer's unti during week two. But it was the ongoing sadness, blahs that was the hardest. I just had to blindly have faith in these people whom I didn't even know. That it would get better. That I wouldn't always feel that way. They were right, and oh my god, why oh why didn't I quit decades ago. Once you get through the misery, it is oh so worth it and now I just wonder why I agonized so much over something that was so doable and has made such a difference. You are hanging in there and doing it right, it seems. Just taking it moment by moment. Keep it up! This is the greatest gift you could be giving yourself. blue cloud, I think you are at a very normal stage in your quit. Self-examination is a huge part of the journey and smoking effected every aspect of our lives. That takes a while to sift through. I was all over the map my first month and at that point I did not even understand HOW my life could be improved in so many areas. There are growing pains though and it sounds like you are having some. If you made one, bust out your list of reasons for quitting and see how many you've accomplished - you may be surprised. We had bad stretches as smokers too but everything seems amplified when you are quitting. Unfortunately the only way to get through it is to go through it - but you aren't alone and we know you can ;) All the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1079 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21,580 Amount Saved: $4,855.50 Life Gained: Days: 82 Hrs: 9 Mins: 25 Seconds: 44

Hey Blue Cloud! Some moments are downright miserable, but you seem smart enough to know that the truly worthwhile things in life are not easy to attain. We have the veteran quitters here to remind us that the shackles that bind and imprison us slowly get shed, moment by moment, day by day. Just some days they feel heavier but in reality if we conquer the moment we are freeing ourselves. All this pride would not exist if the journey was quick and easy. C'mon, grab my hand, let's take a big step! :) Audrey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 185 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,700 Amount Saved: $518.00 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 1 Mins: 3 Seconds: 2

Hi Blue Cloud, Things will get better I promise you they will. You will find days that you don't even think about smoking and have no cravings and you will have hard days too. Just keep moving forward the rewards are great and so is the freedom :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 121 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,420 Amount Saved: $786.50 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 2 Mins: 49 Seconds: 7

It does get better and you don't have to wait. Someone told me a few weeks back to either mope about quitting or rejoice about quitting. I asked them why and they told me those are my options. I can either mope for days, months or years that I want a cigarette; or I could rejoice that i no longer need a cigarette. In other words your quit should be making you happy, not miserable. But, let me tell you it does get better but you do need to look at it one day at a time. You are doing great. Don't mope about it. Why would you mope about something that is so great for you and that you wanted? Just does not make since right? You'll get there. You're doing great My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 950 Amount Saved: $190.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 19 Mins: 18 Seconds: 27

BlueCloud, You're doing all the right things. One foot in front of the other....one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Do whatever is necessary to stay smoke free. Do anything but smoke. You're right, smoking will NOT make anything better. Don't worry too much about the future. Get through right now. I PROMISE you it does get so much better. There are days in your future that you will NOT crave and not think about smoking. The difficult part of the journey is well worth it. Hang in there and let us know if we can help. You're doing great, Boxerfan My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 114 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,280 Amount Saved: $570.00 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 23 Mins: 8 Seconds: 25
