Afraid of losing it

This dialouge has really taken a load of my mind tonight!! I have those kinds of thoughts all the time, and it makes me feel like I'm nuts or something. One time I actually handcuffed myself to the bed during a panic attack, so I couldn't hurt myself or anyone else. I've never been violent to myself or anyone before, but during that adrenaline flood you just don't seem to trust yourself anymore. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in having such scary thoughts.

What I mean by being pushed is that I haven't lived with my father for a long time so I have somewhat suppressed the years of living with his alcoholism and although the effects were there with my lack of emotion I was coping well enough. The push came last year when my wife started going out with the girls for girls night out, and recently she started going out 2 and 3 times on some weeks, and coming home late and drunk which brought back the whole wave of negative feeling from when I lived with my father. I fear talking with her because she doesn't always go out and she is a good wife, and I don't want my feelings to interfere with her normal life, we have a great relationship and have been together for 11 years and she went through a period where she was very insecure so I'm happy that she has found herself and don't want to jeopardize that.

Surve, Great to here that you have sought medical assistance. I just wanted to clarify what you mean by your last statement - I'm not sure I understand what your trying to say about being "pushed..." Are you referring to being able to open up? Casey _____________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

I have recently seen my doctor, earlier this week actually, which was a big step for me to admit I was having these problems. He gave me Efferox and wants me to get blood tests as I have diabetes and hypothyriodism which can be factors in anxiety and depression. I am trying to deal over the past few days by blocking the negative thoughts and it works sometimes, but it seems that I am under so much stress lately that its tough to control all the time. I have not done any therapy ever, and I have started the program here...I know the stem of my problem, I grew up in with an alcoholic father and we were always pretending to be happy and hiding our feelings from others, so I know this is where my issues stem from but how to fix them is where I'm stuck. The issues got worse lately because my wife began to drink more, and I'm becoming worried that I will lose her to alcohol which I know is not true because she doesn't drink very often, only an occasional night out with the girls. It just opened up what I've been suppressing for so long that it pushed me a bit ****her than I've ever gone...

Hi Surve, Welcome to the site. Here you will find many supportive fellow members who will be able to share their experiences of panic and anxiety. You must be a very strong person to have managed your anxiety so well for so long. I just wanted to ask if you have sought any medical assistance yet for the increase in symptoms that you report. If you have not already done so, I would encourage you to talk to your doctor soon. Please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When youre finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Please be sure to post often and let us know how you are doing - and remember - you are not alone in experiencing symptoms such as these. Hi all, I'm new here, so bear with me because I don't quite know what to make of my situation... I always have thoughts in my head and when stressed I tend to try and work the what ifs to myself, and I'm always so scared to hurt the ones I love so I always give in no matter what, even if I think what they are doibg is wrong and it really hurts me. I don't want the argument, because I am so scared I will lose the person I'm with, or hurt them so I always just stop and apologise. This was working ok, and I was making it until recently when it seemed I went over the top if you will, the thoughts in my head are non stop and I can't sleep well, and I'm always in panic mode...any thoughts for a complete newbie to accepting this...I believe I have always had this problem but have coped well until now.

Rhonnie, It's the voice of bitter experience...fortunately for me I've had so much very good advice from so many healthcare professionals over the years, I'm beggininning to be an expert in PD/OCD/agoraphobia. This will be the fifth time I've had to pull myself out of the panic hole. (you'd think I'd learn to stop falling in, but there ya go) Humour helps me. Q. Why do agoraphobics never manage to form a self-help group? A. Everyone always wants to have it at THEIR house! :p We'll all get better; sometimes it just takes awhile. I felt lousy yesterday, but am perking up again. ttfn LAuralai

Great post Lauralai! You're right they all kind of roll into one. I was just curious if you needed to take different meds or other types of therapy for ocd. This is my second REALLY BAD bout of panic disorder and GAD but my first time with agoraphobia. I've read other posts of yours and you give excellent advice!! I wish you luck !!

Does it really matter? OCD, anxiety, it's all one when it's in you. Doctors like to label and catagorize things; I guess they need to for "scientific method". But, for all that, any good Doctor will tell you medicine is still an art as much as a science. My family doctor prefers not to heap too many labels on me. When I'm bad with my nerves, he describes it as my have a "severe loss of confidence" in myself. Somehow, that seems to make the thought of recovery a bit less daunting. This will be my fifth battle out from under panic, agoraphobia, OCD, whatever it might be called...but , in the long run, it will be the regaining of my self-confidence which will ultimately cure me. Have faith. Life is good. On the bright side, how many people go through there entire lives taking for granted the joyful freedom of walking down the street, going to a movie, buying groceries. For us, these aren't just everyday: they are precious moments of our own strength. I'm so glad to have found this site, and so many wonderful people. We're special because we think. We think too much, mind you, but it would be so much worse to be insensitive and unfeeling IMHO. :) ttfn Lauralai

I have a question. How do you tell if these racing or obsessive thoughts are caused by anxiety or ocd?
