NRT Patch Question

16 years ago 0 10 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
On previous quits I tried the patches. I never had a problem with the name brand patches but the generic (much cheaper) always came off. And if you did anything that made you sweat (exercise) it wouldn't stay. I always put it on my upper arm. I would place a band-aid over the patch and that worked. I'm not sure if it's recommended or not, but the few times I quit with the patch, I used the generics, and used a cotton ball and some rubbing alcohol to clean the spot I would put the patch. It seemed to work, I rarely had issues with it sticking, and I live in Ohio, so it gets pretty humid here also. I had that problem w/ the generic patch so I simply placed an oversized band-aid on the patch--like the kind used for a larger boo-boo =) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 320 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,800 Amount Saved: $960.00 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 21 Mins: 54 Seconds: 46

Cheeks, I have used the patch before in previous quits. THE BUTT....BUTT....BUTT. It works great on your butt...especially if you wear those pretty tight spandex undies. They keep it snug in place. I used medical tape on my upper arm for every patch and it worked like a charm. x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 194 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,462 Amount Saved: 1,067.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 4 Mins: 6 Seconds: 43

Hey Cheeks, If you have trouble with them sticking, you're supposed to use rubbing alcohol on the area and let it dry before you put the patch on. That is supposed to help it stick. I had lots of issues with that too. I always carried a spare one, just in case. I wore them on my upper arms and switched every day. Yes, if you use an oily lotion or soap in the bath they will not stick well, so just try to avoid the small area where you ant to put it. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 129 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,225 Amount Saved: $1,360.95 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 19 Mins: 44 Seconds: 31

I'm willing to try any spot that it will stick! LOL I sweat a lot when working. Since I've quit smoking the sweating has gotten worse, which I know is one of the side effects that can happen when you quit smoking. Thanks for the ideas Unhooked. Some of the guys were saying their butt or upper thigh worked best. I've never tried that but you might give it a shot. I don't think most people really get a lot of sweat on their thighs? Upper back is where it sticks the best for me too. I've tried upper arm, which doesn't work so well and upper chest, kind of tucked under my bra, that spot doesn't work well at all.
