Not any better after 158 days

16 years ago 0 1000 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Tryagain, I also had a much easier time in the beginning of my quit than I am having now. I think in the beginning my quit was like a high counting the days and proud I could do it. If you smoked in front of me then it just made me want to quit more today it stirs up cravings. Maybe we have not addressed the issues of our addiction and now that the quit is not new and exciting anymore we miss our old friend more and more. I would ask you if you have rewarded yourself but with the hours you are working I somehow doubt you have. When I get home from work now I have a glass of wine to signal the end of the day. I would not worry about the gum to much it is far better than smoking. Hope you are feeling better today and hope you make it to the show you want to enter. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 106 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,120 Amount Saved: $689.00 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 23 Mins: 31 Seconds: 47

I used to be a pet groomer, too. Man - everyone I worked with smoked.. I never really thought about it until right now, but those pups must have left smelling like an ashtray. Hi tryagain, First, tell your hubby thank you. I know, not what you want to hear! But...even thgough he has slipped, he doesn't want to be responsible for your mistake. You have come a long way, and I know you are anxious to put this behind you. Sometimes we look around and it seems everyone else seems to have moved on but we are still stuck. Keep holding on though! I promise you it gets better. There were many times during that first year that I just felt that if this was as good as it got then I might as well smoke. BUT, I hung in, and it really does get better! Do whatever it takes to get you through. If you still need the NRT, give yourself permission to use it without the guilt. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about continued usage. (I used lozenges longer than the package reccommends, after talking with prefessionals.) I do think it's time to go see the doc again. Maybe they will have some other suggestions (ex. chantix or wellbutrin). No matter what, don't give in now. You have 5 hard earned months behind you! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Tryagain. I really remember those days. The days you want to quit your job and just go smoke one cigarette... Just one! It doesn't work that way and you know it. We all know that one leads to many many more. Keep taking those deep breaths and putting one foot in front of the other. You will make it. Find something new to do. A new hobby, read a book, pick up some needle work, scrapbooking, walking, take a trip... find something that you didn't do when you smoked and do that when the going gets tough. I picked up golf. I play and play. Don't even think of smoking either because I never played while I smoked. I think that really helps. You are doing great! Go ahead and throw the dishes!!!! It will make you feel better ;) Lady My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 733 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 14,660 Amount Saved: $2,565.50 Life Gained: Days: 66 Hrs: 5 Mins: 26 Seconds: 4

HA! That's what happens when you own your own business! I could limit my hours by simply taking fewer dogs to groom. I know groomers who are open only half days. I choose to work 14 hours a day 7 days a week because I really neeed the money, desperately so, and if I didn't I'd do little more than think about the next cigarette I'm not going to have. Hiya tryagain! I won't pretend that I have the answers to your troubles because I don't. I just threw away an 8 month spotless quit for "just one puff." I quickly escalated to a pack a day with no thought at all. Although I'm back on chantix and anticipating a quit date of July 10, I cannot help but lament the lost strength and momentum of that beautiful quit. Please, tryagain, one puff is not worth it. Howl at the moon if you have to!! Nothing is worth that one puff. Prayers for you, Debbie My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/10/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: -100 Amount Saved: $-18.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: -37699

Tryagain, I had a girlfriend who had a short terrible marriage. He was a real creep. OH yes..........he could be a smoooooth talker. He could say all the right things. Even when he was wrong, his apologies to her sounded so sincere. Their makeup sessions were incredable and very passionate. Yet he wouldn't change his behavior. Actually... how could he. It was the essence of who he was. There wasn't any way she could accept him for what he was and how he treated her, and still have a good life. Well... the smooth talker kept trying to get her back. In the beginning, she was pretty strong with her resolve. The bad memories were pretty fresh in her mind. She told him all the typical things we say........ to leave her alone and..... not bother her again. He would leave her alone for awhile and then like clockwork he'd call..... Wailing and crying to her that he was the one for her. Evenutally, she began to remember some of the better times and began to forget what a back stabbing creep he really was. She went back to him!! Can you believe that? She really did. I don't even have to finish the story.......you can guess the state she is in now. How could she not see that wolf in sheeps clothing???? She let herself be blind sided. Your cigaretts are a love affair gone bad. You are enableing youself to see it for what it wasn't. You've forgotten what a back stabing creep it is and your letting it convince you that "it" is the one for you. My girlfriend deserved better than to let this guy back in her life........and you deserve better than to let ciagarettes back into yours. YOUR DON'T HAVE TO BE MARRIED TO SOMEONE TO LET THEM RUIN YOUR LIFE......AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO ACTUALLY SMOKE CIGARETTES TO ENABLE THEM TO RUIN YOURS. it's taking over your life without even taking a puff) Try again.......your a very special person. Tell it to "hit the road jack"...and then follow a different direction. Hope this helps. Working 14 hours a day for 7 days a week? This has NOTHING to do with smoking. Where did your employer find his slaves before you came along? My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 506 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 15,180 Amount Saved: 3,795.00 Life Gained: Days: 81 Hrs: 7 Mins: 56 Seconds: 14

tryagain, so sorry you're having a hard time. Straightflop has a point, I think. Maybe some more intensive help than you get here would get you back on track. You have been amazingly strong especially with your husband still smoking (please don't kill him) but nobody can keep going to the point of collapse every day without getting exhausted & when you're exhausted, the junkie starts whispering to you. PLEASE try to get some rest & do something good for yourself, tryagain. You have been locked in a battle with a devious, sneaky opponent who fights dirty, for 158 days. It sounds as if maybe you haven't really put trigger strategies in place, you've just kept working your butt off to try to ignore them? Please try to think of something else you like to do after dinner or at the end of the day so you feel rewarded instead of deprived. We're with you, tryagain. Hang in & know that you are never alone.
