I have to agree to a point. Yes, we CHOSE to start smoking when, at least for most of us, we were very young. However, after that initial choice that was made when we were foolish children, it no longer becomes an active choice... it becomes passive - it's just something we did because it was normal. Have you ever been driving down a road that you commonly take to a specific destination, except this time, you're going someplace else, and you turn or get off the highway at your normal exit out of habit? You didn't CHOOSE to get off there really... it was just out of habit. Once we were addicted, it was just normal for us to smoke. And we wanted to keep that normality that nicotine gave us because otherwise, our lives would be barely functional for a while afterwards. We finally make an active choice again when we quit smoking. Does that make any sense?
