Day 1

Hello all, Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I am going to get some patches on my way home and attempt this thing tomorrow morning again. I have spent a lot of the last hour thinking about everything...... I guess all I can do is try again....one day at a time.....heck....one minute at a time if that is what i need....lol...... It's been well over a year since i quit last time and I guess i was a little taken aback how powerful this addiction is.....forgot i guess.......but.......it CAN be beaten. Heck if I had quit for a year before, I CAN do it again...and will!!!! I gotta stay focused, positive and determined..... Of course writing it is easier than doing it.....but i can do this...with all of your help and support. Just wanted to let you all know that I am not running and hiding....that I am going to try this again!!!! Thank you all. Stop being mad. Start being resolute. You can do it. I'm sure you are no weaker than anyone else here....that's the junkie telling you you're not strong enough. Don't believe that lie. Seamus, Just like in the past it's time to break out those coping strategies and distractions. The junkie will whisper many things in your ear. You can choose to listen or you can choose to push through. If you smoke the junkie will stay, if you persevere, in time, the junkie will be buried six feet under the ground. Welcome back to the boards! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Seamus, Change those doubts to positive words.
Don't know if I can do this....................
Yes, I can! It might be hard, but I can! If Rusty did it after smoking two packs a day for 40 years, I can, too! Say it over and over. Make it happen. Only you can...BUT, you can!!! You CAN do it, Seamus & if you need patches to do it, then get patches. I tried cold turkey as well this time but the junkie wrestled me to the ground & I slipped. I immediately got some patches & jumped back on the wagon. You aren't any less a quitter if you use a little help. The junkie is devious, sneaky & evil & if you need a weapon against him, then use it. PLEASE don't smoke, do anything else but DON'T SMOKE. Just get through today or this hour or this minute & then the next one. You can do it, we can all do it if we stick together. the old junkie thoughts are flooding back in major right now......who opened the flood gates? I am having bad cravings and am going cold turkey right now......i used the patch last time i quit, but figured i could do this cold turkey this time......now my junkie thoughts are saying that I should just go buy a pack, until i can get to the store to get some patches.....Isn't that ridiculous? Cause if I can go to the store to get cigarettes, why can't I go to a store and get the patch? Just really having a lot of self doubts right now........i have only been awake for 5 hrs but feel like i am going insane!!!! Don't know if I can do this.................... Good point, Rusty. I had to learn that I am an addict, just like a crackhead, a smackhead or an alcoholic, and I cannot have just one. Knowing that I can never smoke somehow makes it easier not to. Welcome, Seamus. I believe that no matter how many times we may have tried to quit, something went wrong in each of those quits and we need to figure out what that was. What junkie lie did we believe and that we now need to discard? What do we need to learn from our mistakes and our incorrect thinking? Personally, I had to learn this: do not smoke. Do not put a cigarette into my mouth. Never light another cigarette. I cannot smoke and be a non-smoker. Once I learned that, I was quit. I also believe that the most successful quitters on this site sat on this site day after day after day. Replacing one addiction with another? Probably. But certainly a healthier one. Good luck...you can do this!
