Tresa and Nonic - Thanks so much for your words of encouragement and support ! I wrote in another thread (Coping with cravings) about this morning's cravings due to the patch passing it's 24 hr mark.. over 3 hrs passed.. and oh boy it wasn't a good thing. But I was able to 'contain' that sucker and did some deep breathing exercises, drank lots of water and walked around and it pretty much passed :) I am trying to rise above this.. in fact I try not to think about not smoking. That's where my distractions play a very important part for my journey. Once again, your words of support are most appreciated :) Have a super smoke free Tuesday :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/23/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60 Amount Saved: $21.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 49 Seconds: 20

Sam Welcome to the site...I can tell you that I too have smoked for 30 odd years (some where odder than others) and if not for this site I would still be carrying on, smoking that is... The reason that you will benefit from this site is that it will serve as a distraction for you. When you are craving badly, just come here and write about it. No one will hammer on you for winging, complaining or just plain crying. WE UNDERSTAND...You are among a group of addicts here, all with the same mission, put it out, cut it our and never look back...Secondly, you will find a great deal of information about the effects of nicotine that will assit in your quit. The more you know about how this thing has captured us, the more success you will find... Good luck to you and learn all that you can about the addiction...Never forget that the greatest weapon you have is your own attitude...Changing behavior is very difficult, altering addictive behavior is even more so...But remember IT CAN BE DONE and YOU CAN DO IT... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 182 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,460 Amount Saved: $1,274.00 Life Gained: Days: 33 Hrs: 8 Mins: 13 Seconds: 8

Hello Tresa :) Well things are coming along pretty good. I wore the patch all night last night and didn't have any of the dreams or sleep disturbances that I've read may happen and I slept like a baby - incidence free ! I've been keeping myself distracted but without driving myself into the ground with exhaustion. I take breaks and simply chill with my healthy snacks and drinking lots of water. Also, as a side note - I'm making sure that I don't look past the moment or the day I'm in.. taking my non smoking journey ONE DAY AT A TIME ! To look too far into the future doesn't seem (for me) to be the way to go. I also try to stay positive and look at this journey as a most personal one therefore celebrating a variety of 'moments' where I DIDN'T smoke, but in past 'moments' I most certainly would have :) I have found this site to be so excellent. I've searched a variety of posts pertaining to things such as moods, depression, celebration etc etc... and it's been totally amazing ! Thanks for checking on me.. that's a very special thing you did ! Thank you, thank you, thank you :) I'm feeling so overwhelmed with all of the responses to every posting I make here at this site ! This site will clearly be the place to be, whether it's to share a bad moment/day or something happy and fun ! Thanks Lamplighter - I'm most certainly taking this non smoking journey ONE DAY AT A TIME ! I'm in no rush.. taking the craves and working with my coping tools to get through them and making sure I get lots of exercise, drinking lots of water and overall just knowing that this is THE best thing I've done just for me in a very long time. I also found out from Mister Ed that there's already a 'Sam' in the database so he added '2007' to my nickname and I really like it.. so now I'm Sam2007 ;) Enjoy your evenings .......... Peace to all ! Hiya, Sam! Sounds like you've got a pretty good idea of where you're going and what's required. So, good on ya! You're off to a great start! A day at a time, an hour at a time... don't look too far ahead the first while. If you look after the days, the weeks and months will look after themselves. Oh, and I concur with your decision to keep the patch on 24/7. By the time you come off the patch after level three... going nic free isn't nearly so shocking. :) Welcome to SSC, Sam!!
