Depression

Hi all, I don't know why but I should be excited that I have gone 17 days.... Instead today I feel like I should have felt on my first day. I had one of my biggest cravings yet.... From reading some of the posts I realize that it will take a lot of time but today I feel awful. It took almost everything I had to say no.... This is such an ugly addiction. Just when I think that it is getting easier it hits me like a brick wall. Janna, That's exactly what this support group is for, helping us out when we feel like crap and need a boost! (Did it myself last nite) What you're feeling is exactly what a lot of us have gone thru, and it is perfectly normal, so don't feel bad at all!You are not a whimp, you are perfectly human, just like the rest of us! (AS hard as we try we can't be superwoman all the time) Try Vitamin B Complex, it does help with the bluesy moods! Deep breaths really help, or sucking on a straw! Hang in there and keep posting to let us help! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 107 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,675 Amount Saved: $1,128.85 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 2 Mins: 42 Seconds: 33

It's important that you take sympathetic understanding from these messages and hold it to you because what you are feeling IS normal or at least common in the experience of people here a bit further down the line to you. Just ride this bit and quite soon you'll look back - maybe even read some other new quitter's post and remember that was you but my how you've progressed! Hope you're having a better day already. get a mantra going For the next few days; of course, I WONT SMOKE. but also PEACEFUL AND FREE, PEACEFUL AND FREE. i have definitely felt like you are feeling. Take some deep breaths, take a nap, take a walk, take a bath..take something for yourself. You are withdrawing for a powerful drug. One week is done; you are doing great. Just do not smoke. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 600 Amount Saved: $125.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 12 Mins: 7 Seconds: 18

Janna, I know exectly how you feel, I've never been the kind of person to ask for help & couldn't stand people who needed rescuing either. Before I came here, I wouldn't ask you to spit on me if my hair was fire. I have learned through the wonderful people here that everyone needs help with something sooner or later and sometimes asking for it is the stronger thing to do. You will be happy again, I promise. Don't be hard on yourself, you need to spoil yourself a little and realize what a hard thing you're doing. So you cry a little, crying never killed anyone. Concentrate on the gift you're giving yourself & your family, know that you are doing it, and if you have to take it one minute at a time, evey minute that you don't smoke counts! Hang in there Janna, it gets easier I promise. You are almost through the worst part of all. It's hard to appreciate the fact that you've made it 8 days when you feel like you do right now. Believe me, not smoking anymore is worth a few days of discomfort. Just keep moving forward and you will get through this, we're all here to help My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 731 Amount Saved: $180.60 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 20 Mins: 57 Seconds: 23

Thanks guys. I feel like such a whiney baby. I am usually a strong, in-charge kinda person and I feel like such a loser right now. I am not a person who asks for help. I like to do everything myself. now that I reread this, I guess I am an *******. In any event, right now I feel like the damsel in distress that I always make fun of. I feel like I need somebody to take care of me or something. It is crazy, crazy crazy. Just want to scream this morning. I want a cigarette bad for the first time in few days. I WILL NOT SMOKE... I WILL NOT SMOKE.... I will stop crying... I will concentrate.... I HATE NICOTINE.... I HATE NOT BEING IN CONTROL.... I HATE NOT BEING HAPPY.... Hi, Janna. A lot of us experienced that "dopey" feeling. It's normal & it won't last. To me, it felt like I was walking through oatmeal wearing steel toed boots with cotton batting wrapped around my head. I kinda liked it, but I can see how not everyone would. Hang in, you're doing great & you will start to feel better soon. Janna, Like they said.... It is normal. You are loopy from the extra oxygen. The depression is also due to an adjustment in your brain. Because for all the years you smoked ....your brain was receiving too much serotonin. So you brain adjusted and shut down many of your brains receptors. Now that you are not receiving the extra serotoin (along with 2000 cancer chemicals)... you are in short supply of your feel good chemical. The brain will open up those receptors again....but everyone does so at the pace of their own bodies. The depression is your body healing. If will lift in time......but if it continues contact your doctor. Your doing great Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 149 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,980 Amount Saved: $666.03 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 14 Mins: 50 Seconds: 18

Janna, It is normal and it will pass! Your body is healing and needs some relax time. Take a nap and do something for yourself :) If this persists, then take the time to contact your doctor to rule out anything medical :) Josie, Support Specialist
