I did however get around to transferring the sunflowers from the pots now. And the tomato plant called Phil :) They're about 2.5ft now. I'm preparing for the slug attack as we speak. p.s. I think 1 day of not smoking by any means possible (cold turkey or otherwise) will be a major acheivement. This is a reminder to myself for when I reach a long time not smoked and become an old hand to be as supportive as I possibly can be to new quitters. Its a long way off. Hi Gen, Sooooo lovely to see you! Gen you rock as always. A short but very sweet post. I'll need all the luck in the world I think. Realising that I have put myself through the first hours of hell week many many times this month already, hell week seems like a permanent state. Somehow, I have still kept my sense of humour through it all. In answer to your question, that means I am still in battle mode. I haven't given up my fight against the nicodemon yet, but it is using all my energy. Just listening to detroit techno as that is calming my jangled nerves. Just keep at it Kev. You CAN do this and one day you will be surprised at how far you have come. :) BUT you must really be committed to stopping. This 6 hrs, 12 hrs without a cigarette thing is really not good. All you are doing is making yourself suffer through withdrawal again and again! If you really want to succeed, get through the first few days and then it is basically just a mind game. Hi Danielle, Thanks for the good advice. I'll add to that to my plan book. 100 times round the block (not passing any tobaccanists/newsagents). Another sign of me planning ahead this time. I bought the entire months magazines. Meaning I have no reason to enter a newsagent now. Thats another trigger removed. I just put out my last cigarette btw. Time to put the plan into action. JDK, Sounds like you have a good plan in place. Do try your best to reduce the amount of triggers you have but also have a plan for when stress/anxiety levels rise. Physical activity, like taking a short but brisk walk when you're at the end of your rope may help you dispense some of that energy. Keep us posted! Danielle - Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi Kev, You have no idea how much I admire your strength and determination to keep trying to quit the addiction of smoking. You will succeed eventually and everyone at SSC will be here for you. I do feel it is this amazing stubborn streak of yours that will eventually set you free. Maybe I'm all wrong, but from the things you say, I also think it's your stubborn streak that might be holding you back right now. You said: "I really don't want to think that I am stuffed with this addiction for life". I am very, very sorry to tell you this Kevin, but nicotine addiction is for life, just as any other addiction is. I am not a professional, but I will tell you from my own experience, you will only smoke until you die if you choose to do so. You can decide to let your addiction keep you smoking until you take your last breath or you can decide to take control and beat the addiction into submission. The choice is yours and yours alone. Someone very wise wrote: "Our quits don't just fall out of the sky, we make them happen." No one can quit for you but you Kev. Yes, the first 3 days are very difficult. Yes, your addiction will scream to be fed. When it is screaming, you can think of the cravings as your body healing and your addiction dying. Every crave you beat is one less craving you have to handle to be in charge of the addiction. Know the withdrawl symptoms and cravings will not last forever. Just ask anyone who's made it through hell week...heck week is usually much easier...the week after is even easier....etc, etc, etc. Every person and every quit is different, but one thing remains the same...quitting is possible. You can do it, one second, one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Getting professional help need not be scary and could give you just the little extra knowledge you need to make this your last quit. I'll be cheering you on Kev, even if I can't be here to post every day. Thanks Pentinent, of course I can make triggers all by myself (in my mind coertesy of nic's last exit) and I also have a plan for that too. I now have a very big planbook. I've secretly been making plans this week. p.s. that reminds me. Pat, I'll order those hammers now if I may. 100 XL ones please, send me the invoice. Right, I'll do this for tomorrow morning, to keep reminding me of the benefits : 20 minutes Blood pressure and pulse return to normal. Circulation improves, especially to hands and feet. 8 hours The oxygen level in your blood increases to a normal level. Chances of a heart attack start to fall. 24 hours Carbon monoxide leaves the body. The lungs start to clear out mucus and debris. 48 hours Nicotine is no longer found in the body. Senses of taste and smell improve. 72 hours Breathing becomes easier. Energy levels increase. I will celebrate at the 24 hour mark.
