Hi Sara! Congratulations to you and your hubby on one of the best decisions you'll ever make. The beginning days can be challenging, but with some coping tools in place, you'll be able to do this! It gets easier every day. Congrats to you, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/10/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 30 Amount Saved: $8.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 52 Seconds: 0

Sara, Great work! I just found out I have COPD also. Here is something that I got from this site that might make you and your hubby feel better. The treatment objectives for COPD include slowing the accelerated decline in lung function; relieving symptoms, such as shortness of breath and cough; improving daily lung function; decreasing exacerbations; and improving quality of life. The most important step in treating COPD is to encourage smoking cessation. There is a direct relationship between smoking and accelerated loss of lung function in susceptible persons. Smoking cessation has been shown to STOP this accelerated loss, so that decline in lung function RETURNS to the NORMAL rate seen with aging. Most experts advocate early detection of COPD and active intervention to stop smoking. Smoking cessation has been shown to HALT the accelerated loss of lung function associated with COPD. It also STOPS the loss of lung function in younger patients with relatively mild disease. However, any COPD patient can benefit from smoking cessation, no matter how advanced the disease. Best Wishes! Hi Sara. Sounds like we are so much alike but my hubby hasn't QUIT. We are about the same age pretty much and started at the same age. HA! Our names even rhyme!, Mine starts with a L. It's been a hell of a ride through this last month of being smoke-free and I just want you to know that if I can do it, YOU CAN DO IT! You have to want to QUIT more than you want to smoke! Yes, bad days are going to come but if you keep a positive attitude, IT'S SO MUCH EASIER! I promise, it is! BTW, I'm using the patch and flying high on WILL POWER! Pretty soon, those 5 days will be 5 weeks, then 5 months and someday 5 years. You can do it! Congratulations for coming this far! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 750 Amount Saved: $105.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 3 Mins: 40 Seconds: 14

Sara, You both have made the best choice of your life. It is a daily choice. Do NOT smoke...ever..not even one puff. Stay positive and read all you can about this addition. Read all the medical stuff you can. It keeps you focused and on track. Be kind to yourselves in the beginning. It is hard....but VERY DOEABLE... if you are happy about your new journey. It can be a happy positive thing. Sometimes we are so focused on believing it has to be a hard yucky process. It isn't Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 140 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,800 Amount Saved: $625.80 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 9 Mins: 49 Seconds: 59

Hi Sara, (do you own 4 cows? are you a cow rights advocate? is your kitchen decorated with cows?) He he. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING SMOKE FREE FOR 5 ENTIRE 24 HOUR PERIODS~! You have quit smoking. Are you using any NRT or medications? Whatever, you have not had a cig for 5 days, so you know that quitting will not kill you; in opposition to smoking, which will. It is really important for your hubby to stay quit. It is not easy, but using self talk to keep reminding yourself how wonderful it is to not be a slave to nicotine any longer really helps when the cravings hit. Remember that smoking is a choice. We choose NOT to smoke because we want to be free of this horrible addiction, this poison smoke. remember NOPE; not one puff ever. You all can do it. Be happy and thankful that you are quitting! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 336 Amount Saved: $70.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 1 Mins: 21 Seconds: 39
