I've Had Enough

Thanks for all the encouragement .. I keep telling myself, every time I light up that I am quitting on Friday. I keep getting little panic attacks when I think about it .. but I really want to .. especially for my two kitties Barney & Feif. Anne

You are exactly where I was when I decided to quit! Plus I have two kids, the youngest of which wants to be athletic and begged me to quit! I had "help" because right after the decision to quit, I got an acute case of bronchitis. I originally put down the pack thinking that I would finish the carton when I felt better. After about coughing up my lungs, I decided to see how long I could go without. Then in the course of getting over the bronchitis, I changed the thought process, and decided that I wanted to be a non-smoker, so I was going to be. That was January 25th and I have yet to have one. 3 1/2 packs sat in that carton in my kitchen cabinet until I gave them away the other day because I AM A NON-SMOKER! So don't tell yourself you want to quit, tell yourself that you did quit! The cravings can be tough, but I also found that it was more the habbit than the nicotine that I craved. When I got over the bronchitis, I had cravings, but what they say is true... if you wait, it does go away. I started smoking at a very young age (11) and I quit at 38! When traveling was the worst for cravings, so I chewed a lot of gum! I think that if you need the patches or nicotine gum, that any help you need is great as long as you quit, but let me be one to say that cold turkey, you get it out of your system a lot quicker - it doesn't drag it out! Everyone can quit if you want it bad enough (or have a 9 year old that constantly begs you to quit!). I couldn't belive the last time I looked at my meter and saw that I have saved over $500!!!! Plus, I am now working at home, just like I wanted to do with the extra money! Good Luck to you all! Anne, You have made a wonderful decision to quit! If you feel overwhelmed, just remember that you only have to quit one cigarette at a time. Each time you don't light up...you've won. Repeat that and you've done it! Some days will be easier than others (just like when we smoked) but if you stay with it the rewards are many! Speaking of rewards - they are very important too. Small things to encourage you along for getting through a day, a week or an hour if you need it. They can be anything from a hot bubble bath, a cup of tea or some new perfume. Whatever makes you happy. We are rooting for ya :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1027 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 20,540 Amount Saved: $4,621.50 Life Gained: Days: 78 Hrs: 10 Mins: 5 Seconds: 48

My wife and I noticed that although we pay more at the pump these days we actually spend less at the register. I would suggest to firmly set a quit date instead of saying "When this carton runs out". Buy a single pack if you need to or in our case run water over the remaining pack! For me, a firm date works best but I suppose that it to the individual. If you are afraid of "Wasting money" by destroying remaining cigarettes. Think again how much money is wasted by being a smoker! You are paying cigarette manufactures with both cash and health. Does it really make sense that you should pay someone to poison you? Think about it. HadEnough, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to quit! Please take the time to work through our online quit program in preparation for your quit. If you'd like information on NRT's or other quitting aids, please consult your physician. He/she will be able to determine which options are available to you according to your medical history and will be able to help you determine your length of treatment. If you have any questions about quitting or just need a little encouragement, post. We are always here to help. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi HadEnough! Congratluations on getting ready to quit. My quit date is June 1st so I'll be right there with you. So far this board has been very helpful for me. I worked the program on the left (<-- over there) and found it very helpful. I'm taking Chantix, this is my 4th day of the first week. It's really helping already, the cigarettes just don't satisfy like they used to. Good luck! YOU CAN DO IT! Hi HadEnough Glad you're determined to never smoke again. As for the chantix...many people, including me, are finding it very helpful. But, you are supposed to start taking it a week before your quit date so that it has time to build up in your system. So, if you are thinking of using it, I would scurry down to your doctor's office tomorrow. Many people have said they stopped enjoying cigarettes within days of starting chantix. I know I was still left with 3 packs out of my last carton, so i must have been cutting down before my quit date. No matter what you decide concerning the chantix, I agree with everyone else....use the tools in the quit program to your left, and come here often. We'll be your quit family. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 67 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,680 Amount Saved: $455.60 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 10 Mins: 40 Seconds: 30

Hi HadEnough, We had enough too and we became NON SMOKERS. You can to. You have a few days to prepare. My advice to you is read ALL you can and really be prepared for you quit. Now... I don't mean just prepared with the carrot sticks, gum, hard candy and NRT. You need those too. But...more important is to be prepared mentally. You have to WANT THIS QUIT.... more than anything. You need to want to be a non smoker more than any nicotine crave. It is very do-able. The more excited you are about your new journey the easier it is. You see......I say and will always say: IT ISN'T THAT YOU "GOT" TO QUIT......BUT YOU "GET" TO QUIT. This is the best thing you will ever do for yourself. Hang in there and use your computer search engine to look up information on smoking. Read all you can here including the many back posts Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 127 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,540 Amount Saved: $567.69 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 18 Mins: 1 Seconds: 54

HI, HadEnough & welcome. The support & advice I've gotten from the wonderful people have helped me enormously and I hope they will help you, too. It's important to be prepared for your quit, so as Carylene suggested, it's a good idea to work throught the program on the left of this screen. We're glad to have you & hope to see you here often.
