What does "one slip" mean?

Informative yes and significant too Casey, in view of the author and her recent relapse. Just shows you how easy one can fall unless one remains positive and in control. I can't slip. I may never have this opportunity again. I just remind myself: If I slip, I'm a dead man. Personally, on this quit, I have "slipped" 3 times and never relapsed... mainly due to the awesome support I received from this site. But it DID bring a lot of junkie thinking with it like "see?!?! You slipped 3 times and never relapsed! So you CAN do it every once in a while and it won't affect your quit! You CAN stay quit after a slip because you have 3 times!" Pure junkie thinking and I'll NEVER listen, but I do think that others do. It's like "well, that wasn't so bad... I didn't have any increased cravings due to my slip, so I CAN smoke every once in a while," and THAT is where the most damage is done. That's how EVERY single one of my quits before this one ended. And that's what's so dangerous about slipping! Crave the Quit! Butterfly swimmer You are soooooo right and hit the nail on the head!! As you know I slipped and have been craving again. It wasn't worth it and I do feel like I failed myself. I'm my own worse enemy but I'm not giving up!! Better to spend money on the patch again then to start again. This brings up another point. I stopped the patch too soon and mentally didn't prepare for the emotional stresses I'm going through. Please for the new quitters follow your program as prescribed!! Don't cheat yourself and make the mistake I made. One cigarette, one slip is all it takes to put that nicotine in your system and it can get you started all over again. I have to stay focused or I will lose the fight. N.O.P.E. is so true... Thanks Butterfly Swimmer for a great message. You are so right. Much like Mercy I have been down that road before and for 99.9% of us a slip means we have started smoking again. Based on personal experience I found it impossible to recover from a slip for all those reasons you noted. There is a good reason we can't take just one puff. For most of us there is no such thing. If someone manages it then they should consider themselves very fortunate and not test fate again. Butterfly swimmer, I couldn't agree more. As the expert in failing quits I can honestly say that I NEVER IMMEDIATELY JUMPED BACK INTO MY QUIT AFTER SLIPING. Each time I failed it would take months if not over a year to get pumped up to try again. I know that sounds rediculous...but it's true. If you got a good quit going...hang on for dear life. Of all the hundreds of times I tried, I can say that only a handful were good solid quits. It's all or nothing.
