I've always wondered about this

I thought I was the only person who felt like this. I could also go for a weekend with family and not smoke or even think about it, but the second I got in the car by myself I couldn't wait to light up. I often wondered why it didn't bother me when I couldn't have one but when the opportunity came up to have one, I couldn't wait. I also don't want one when I wake up in the mornings. I don't smoke one for at least 2 or 3 hours. But, if I'm going somewhere that morning I have to have one before I leave. weird!!!!! Think it's all in my head. :gasp: My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: -60 Amount Saved: $-12.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: -63374

Oh no, I was pretty addicted!!! I wouldn't say that I wasn't all that addicted because when I went to get in my car to go home, I couldn't WAIT to light that cigarette! And if I didn't light it, it was all I could think about until I did! And I had an EXTREMELY difficult time quitting... ask anyone who was on this site at the time! :8o: They can attest that I screamed and cried my way through the beginning of this quit! So I don't think that I was less addicted. I do believe that a lot of it is mind over matter. If we never smoked in those situations (i.e. me at my parents' house) then we don't associate smoking with that and therefore, don't get as many cravings if any at all. I don't know... I asked a very similar question to this when I first joined this site and many people said the same thing as me... that they could go a long time without smoking if they were in the right circumstances. Again, I think it's just a mental game we played with ourselves for so long! Now, it's GAME OVER!!!! Crave the Quit! So do you think that people who did have trouble in those situations were more physically addicted, or does it have more to do with individual triggers, or both? I always said that if I moved home with my parents again, I could DEFINTELY quit smoking because whenever I was with them, I didn't want to smoke! I could go days and even weeks without even WANTING to smoke if I was on vacation with them or at their house. But as soon as I got in my car and drove around the corner, that cigarette was lit and I was inhaling like a crazy woman! I don't know what it was, but whenever I was somewhere where I couldn't smoke, it didn't bother me either. Just goes to show that 90% of this addiction is mental. Beat the mental part and you've got the whole thing beat! Crave the Quit! That is so funny!!! I could never smoke with gloves on either, it made them smell. Never mind my coat, clothes, hair, whatever. Unhooked, I had the same experience as you. If I knew I couldn't smoke, then I just didn't let it bother me. I could go for a few hours... on a plane, in a non-smoking car, whatever. However, if there was an opportunity to smoke - even half a smoke - I did, regardless of the weather or anything else. Everyone else may have taken a potty break, I took a smoke break. Yes indeedy! You would think I could have quit years ago. Funny, but I also did not walk and smoke at the same time. I, too, was a lady! I could stop and smoke, or sit and smoke, but not walk and smoke. I used to look at people who smoked while walking and thought how addicted they must be. Geesh! :gasp: LOL Couldn't smoke with gloves on, either. I probably can't walk and chew gum, but I've never tried (don't chew gum). Some days I have enough trouble just walking! ;) Nance My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 96 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,880 Amount Saved: $465.60 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 11 Mins: 16 Seconds: 46

:confuse: :quest: So many people have said they had a hard time in airports, theatres, etc. where you can't smoke & can't easily go outside. Somebody ( sorry, I forget who. I'm still a little muddled) actually said they stopped flying & going to movies because of it. When I smoked, I had absolutely no problem not smoking when I couldn't. I didn't even go into the smoking lounges at airports because they stunk & were disgusting & often full of stinky, disgusting people. I could get through a reasonably long flight & certainly a movie without even thinking about it. BUT if the option to go outside was there (like a bar, at work, a restaurant, my final flight destination) I would be the first one out even if it was -35 & a blizzard. Also, even though I would smoke in the lee of a building or on the loading dock or whatever because the only option was outside, I was taught that it's "unladylike" to smoke on the street so I never smoked while walking, or standing on a sidewalk without some kind of alcove or doorway & I never missed it. So why couldn't I just NOT SMOKE??? A bit of a ramble, sorry, but even when I was smoking, I wondered about that. Any thoughts?
