Aloha, This post was so meaningful to me that I saved it and I do have it in its entirety and I've copied it below. Thanks again Duffis for your insight! Good evening quitters, I hope you are all in good spirits and feeling good about yourself. Quitting is a major lifestyle change for both you and your friends and family. One of the first big secrets that is if there are any, is to visualize your self in a good image. How you perceive yourself is sometimes the difference between success and failure. If you are new to the quit process and a craving creeps up on you and slams you; I want to leave you with something that you can print our and keep handy for when that urge to smoke is about to overcome you read this and read it again. Ok I wish you a successful quit, post often and read a lot. I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER DRAG!!!!! Giving into a craving is for weak people and I am not a weak person. I refuse to be a slave to addiction. Visualize and repeat your top 3 reasons for quitting. Watch 1 minute go by and remember that 10 people died from smoking in that minute one of those could be you if you smoke that cigarette Write down and repeat to your self the names of the people you will hurt if you start smoking again. Look up and write down and repeat the definition of Nicotine Write down and repeat the names of any people you know who have died or are likely to die from smoking Look up and repeat all of the deadly chemicals in a cigarette Inhale as deeply as you can and hold your breath for a few seconds, with out exhaling take another breath, repeat. Those last two breaths are what if feels like to have emphysema one of the leading diseases associated with smoking. Plan your next milestone reward Write in or read your journal remember how tough those first few days are, dont make your self go through that again. Write down what you will do with a 15 extra years on your life. Tell your self is a great achievement for me to have come this far, I will not undo it because I cannot deal with 3 minutes of anxiety. I will let go of things I cannot control. I am healthy, vital, and strong. There is nothing in the world I cannot handle. All my needs are met. I am completely and utterly safe. Every day in every way I am getting stronger I do not need cigarettes I am a non-smoker I am simply creating new habits which do not include smoking. It's better to be an ex-smoker with an occasional desire to smoke, than a smoker with a constant desire to stop. I DON'T SMOKE! This craving will pass whether I smoke or not. Someday I'll find it hard to believe that I ever smoked. I'm a puff away from a pack a day. "TO QUIT QUITTING" is not an option. "JUST ONE" is not an option. I will confront my cravings head on and win every time, this craving cannot kill me, make me bleed, hurt my family, or last for more than a few minutes. I am proud of ME!" Confidence is the RESULT of accomplishment "Not One, Not now, Not ever" Duffis My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 549 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 16,493 Amount Saved: $1410.93 Life Gained: Days: 109 Hrs: 22 Mins: 53 Seconds: 20 My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 78 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,404 Amount Saved: $390.00 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 0 Mins: 52 Seconds: 30
