Hi gang, I am still working in the gardens...pulling weeds, turning soil, planting. I am always surprised at the different muscles that get a workout from gardening. I've also been doing some walking. When the weather doesn't co-operate, I use the treadmill but I still prefer getting outside & hitting the trails. The view is so much nicer & it's constantly changing.
I've got a few tips for the walkers that might help to burn more calories & get the most out of your workout to help tone muscles.
1-Take small steps. If you're walking at a good clip with long strides, each time you put your foot down, you are actually slowing down. With a smaller stride, you won't.
2-If you angle yourself slightly forward, you will be able to walk a little faster & easier, which will help to burn a few more calories. Plus it's more comfortable.
3-Swing your arms. It helps with the upper body workout & it really tones flabby arms.
4-Get that heart rate up. Just slightly raising your heart rate will help with blood circulation. Your heart needs a work out too & this helps to keep it healthy.
5-Don't forget to breath! That quick beating heart will move all that oxygen straight to where it's needed most...your muscles!
