Misha, I am a Chantix user and I love how it helps me. They are right though, you still have to want to quit and you still will have the psychological part of the quit to deal with. But using Chantix makes it so much easier to do that. I smoked since I was 16 and I am now 46 and quitting I knew was going to be hard, but with the help of Chantix and this site I have made it to 61 days and so can you. Best of luck. Let us know if you need any help. We are all here 24/7. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 61 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,535 Amount Saved: $305 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 12 Mins: 9 Seconds: 24

I'll try to explain - but my technical info may not be precise. Chantix is a prescription pill that helps in 2 ways. The first way is it blocks the nicotine from stimulating the receptors in your brain. (So you gradually will not feel the positive buzz from nicotine). Then it also stimulates a low level release of dopamine from those same receptors. For myself and many others here, it has been amazing. You take it for a week (or 2 for some) while still smoking and suddenly you realize that your cigs taste like plastic and aren't doing anything for you. That makes it easier to put them down. HOWEVER, even with Chantix, your desire to quit has to be greater than your desire to smoke! It's a great help, but it's not a magic potion. You could probably do an internet search and get more info. Thanks for responses. I guess it's too late for me to use it then? Since I already quit and am using the patch? I have an appt with my family doctor this week, maybe I can get a prescription. I guess I can't do both patch and Chantix? I know a lot of questions I am asking here. misha My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 86 Amount Saved: $35.25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 50 Seconds: 0

And how do I get some? I keep seeing people referring to it. Is it a new pill? I'm in Canada, saw somewhere on the boards that is has just been approved here? Can someone explain please??? Chantrix is a medication to help with your quitting journey. You will need to check with your doctor and pharmacist to see if this is the right path for you. There are many other avenues as well as NRT's that can be used. Take the time to make an informed choice and work with your doctor :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
