Glad you are doing well Princess - The first drop (when starting patches and quitting cigarettes) is the worst....I know that I was getting alot less nicotine than when I smoked. It does get better and you have 3 days down! Good for you! There is an expiry date on the back of the patch envelope, check to see if it has passed, if so, you will have to get new ones if thats what you want to do. They are usually good for 8-12 months, so its worth a check.IN the meantime, don't give in, you will be so mad at yourself, and upset if you do. Not one puff ever! Hello princess - I have an important question for you: is your desire to quit stronger than your desire to smoke? The above is where your commitment is, and if you're ready to quit - spend as much time here as possible reading, reading and reading. And reading more. Coping skills - build them up -one at a time beginning right now, and find some distractions. I painted walls, cleaned the bathroom grout with a toothbrush and spray bleach, call a friend, go for a walk, do some yoga, ANYTHING to keep your mind and body busy. This is a tough walk through hell AND it is doable, but you need to make the commitment above, and build a toolbox of coping sklls! Blessings sent!! princess, Check with your pharmacist regarding the patches and expiry date. What you are using for coping mechanisms? How are you keeping busy? We always try to suggest that members prepare for these tough days. Sitting idle does not help and we would love to guide you :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.

Princess: (1) Say outloud "Smoking is not an option" 10 times. (2) Drink a cold glass of water. (3) Chew some sugarless gum & go for a walk. This is the hardest time - you've already gotten 1 day under your belt - so hang on as tightly as you can! Also, FYI - if you smoke with the patch on (or just after you take it off) you're going to feel really really sick. Yet another reason not to smoke. Try to distract yourself for an hour, then see how you feel. Keep posting. We're here for you! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Ok, Princess.....what have you done to get yourself through this bad urge? Did you go into some quiet meditation and talk to yourself about something other than smoking? Have you spent 5 minutes doing some "practiced breathing"? You have to work to make this an easier time for yourself. If you just sit there and wallow in your misery you will not have an easy time at all. Remember...you are choosing to quit you are not depriving yourself. This is how I breathe...give it a try.... How to Breathe. Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and breathe in through your nose. Keep breathing in until your lower stomach starts to rise. Then put your lips together as if you are blowing up a balloon. Blow all the air out slowly in a controlled manner until it is all gone. The breathing out should take almost twice as long as the breathe in. Say in my mind Go Away . When you have practiced this and understand what to do you will start to feel a change in your body, It is important that you take notice of this, The drop of the shoulders, The loosening of the face and any other feelings you have. When you have mastered this, each time you take a deep breathe you say a word. It can be any word, such as RELAX, CALM, QUIET or any word that you want. The word should be repeated over and over again in your mind as you breathe out. Very shortly all you will have to do is say the word and your body and mind will instantly return to that calm state, you can do this anywhere and at any time and no one will even know you are doing anything differently. -----MY WORD IS, GO AWAY The control of breathing is important and the faster you breath the more adrenalin is pumped, the more oxygen is taken from the brain and the more anxiety is felt. Control that breathing and you will release the brains own feel good chemicals called endorphins. When you have practiced you will be able to change your mood whenever you want.
